"Why is she an old maid?"
"She was overly focused with her career. She's obsessed with success, I guess."
"I see. Who would want her, anyways. She's too conservative. Guys love wild girls, not someone who looks like she came out of the convent."
She just mentally shook her head as the her co-workers giggled behind her back, oblivious that she can hear everything they're saying. She looked at her watch and heaved a sigh when it said quarter to 5pm. It means she'd be finally out of this office and be able to see him.
After she timed-out, she visited the bathroom first to freshen up. Of course, she wants to look beautiful in his eyes, as always. Years may have passed but she never want to look lousy in front of him. No matter how many times he assured her that she doesn't need any kind of fixing up, she always make sure to look presentable whenever she's with him. She wants him to look at her, only her. After her short detour, she immediately went to their meeting place, a bouquet of his favorite flowers already in hand.
"Hi babe. Happy Anniversary! Look how the time flies, we're already together for a decade!" She said happily. She sat in front of him and smiled.
"I heard them again talking about me. That I'm an old maid and no guy would ever want me." She stopped saying, then laughed her heart out. She just finds it hilarious how people talk about things they don't know. Her eyes glistened with joy and if ever they see her right now, they could never deny that love is in her eyes.
She sighed then and continued on talking,"They don't know that there's you. A guy who loves me wholeheartedly. Tell me, do I really look like an old maid?"
She questioned frowning like a littlr child and waited for his answer. And like what she expected, he answered no.
"See! Those women just don't know what they're saying." She said, shaking her head.
"But hey.. don't worry about me okay? I'm fine... Just.." She stopped momentarily to let a sob go. She cursed herself for being weak again in front of him. She needs to be strong, not like this, a weakling who cries in the things said about her.
"Just tell God that I will wait for my time. And please wait for me in there.."
Tears trickled down the marble headstone. She hugged herself as she felt a cold breeze pass by. She smiled at his headstone and traced the writings.
"I would never break my promise, my love. You're the only guy that I'll love. Forever."
