Now that the deadly sheath has lifted,
We see the world anew. Or,
Maybe it's the old one we let slip from memory.
The birds have returned,
In unprecedented numbers they play in the sky.
The trees are greener,
Happiest green you can fathom; after the longest dearth.
And the skies, oh the bluest skies,
Smell of that long awaited refreshing cup of tea.
This is the world we all fell in love with,
As exploring kids; as adults we repressed. And,
I would like to defend it’s ways.
News of returning flamingos making beaches pink,
Snow capped peaks visible from distant villages; after generations.
Inquisitive penguins wobbling through empty city streets,
Rhinos investigating once busy bazaars.
Ozone wounds closing up to heal,
Fills my heart to the brim.
It took just two months of nothing,
For a miraculous mend. Imagine,
What collective effort would amend.
But there is death in the thousands,
Nations in grieving.
The invisible enemy has shown it's weight,
New heroes emerge; saving lives with lives.
In the bleakest hour,
Humanity survives.
Let us preserve the gift that is this planet,
In loving memory of those departed. For,
We are one world, together.
