Ooty and Munnar, two hill stations in the south of India. They are both small villages, surrounded by beautiful nature and tea plantations. In both villages, you can completely unwind and escape the Indian chaos and bustle. If you have the option, visit both villages. During my internship in India, I have both visited the hill stations. Although both villages are very nice to visit, I prefer Munnar.
The tea plantations in Munnar are nicer
You can find miles of tea plantations in both Munnar and Ooty, but I found Munnar's landscape more intense. It seemed greener and more mysterious. Munnar is smaller and less developed
The center of Munnar is really a bit crappy. It is very small and actually there is nothing to do at all. This too has its charm. There are few tourists and you can discover untouched India. Ooty has been further developed and is slightly more focused on tourism. This translates into the number of activities in the city. Ooty more accessible
Because Ooty is already developed further than Munnar, Ooty is also easier to reach. Moreover, it is a three-hour drive from the Mudumalai National Park and the Nilgiri Hills. Ooty is easy to reach from Bangalore, Mysore, Chennai, and Coimbatore. Munnar is best reached by bus from Cochin, Kottayam, Trivandrum, Kumily, and Coimbatore.
Munnar and Ooty are both worth seeing. Every city has its own charm and benefits. In that respect, Munnar has a special place in my heart because I have experienced very special things there. Such as piggybacking on the back of a tea cart, piggybacking in a jeep with 16 other people, feeding elephants and more.
