“Renew, reuse, recycle”. This is a mantra well known in every modern-day school. With the environment being a key issue in today’s world, at Edusentials we challenged ourselves to demonstrate how it is possible to recycle your school supplies to not only expand their lifespan but also to show children how putting an item to a whole new use can be a fun project.
We were amazed that a good scour of the internet produced some fantastic ideas on how your school supplies can be given a new lease of life. Here are just a few ways we found:
Crayon Cakes
We suspect that many a poor old crayon see a sorry end before their time. Creating these crayon cakes produces a solid colorful block that is perfect for those smaller hands to produce their works of art. If you’re lucky enough to have a heart shaped silicone mold, you could even “bake” wax hearts for parents as gifts from their little Di Vinci.
Pencil Stamp Flower
Even the shortest of pencils could be wrapped together in this fantastic way to produce beautiful stamped flowers. Children could experiment with the different patterns they can produce with the pencil ends. And don’t worry if your pencils don’t have erasers on the end, we’ve tried this in the Edusentials office and it works just as well without!
Milk Box Bird Feeders
We know that this might not technically be made from school supplies, but there’s no denying that a good cup of tea or coffee in the staffroom is a lunchtime essential for all you hard working teachers. We expect that over a term you could probably save enough milk boxes to create these stunning milk box bird feeders. Or your children could get more involved in the project by bringing in their own boxes to make into these wildlife meeting points. A few of these hung in the playground would surely attract a lot of local birds for your children to spot and enjoy.
Pencil Shaving Pictures
This is definitely one of the ultimate in recycling projects that we managed to find. These pencil shaving pictures demonstrate to children that even the most mundane of things can be repurposed to produce a thing of beauty.
Of course, there is a myriad of other projects out there and these are just a few of our favorites. At Edusentials we encourage you to repurpose and reuse your school supplies as much as you possibly can, but should you need any other crafting supplies we have a whole range that can be seen by clicking here.
