She knew her dreams
Were abstract, ivory, and unreal,
From Rapunzel's long golden hair locks,
To pixies and fairies,
Mermaids and dragons,
She knew she couldn't capture the moon
And hide it inside her closet,
Where no prying eyes would see
While she read her favourite books.
She knew if she owned a pair of wings,
She could fly
But before she'd even spread them wide apart,
They'd cut off her feathers and stuff them inside a pillow.
She knew her life was just
A passing shadow and not the shining sun.
She knew the only place she could explore
Was the Tiny universe she built inside her head.
She knew, yet she dreamt
Of days where she could venture faraway,
From a cage built of culture and customs.
She knew, yet she dreamt
Of a world protruding out of her vivid imagination.
She knew, yet she dreamt
Of a fateful encounter, of true love and
May be a little handsome
But a more gentle prince.
She knew, yet she dreamt
Until her final breathe
And
When her eyes closed forever,
She dreamt once again.
