It was Monday 2006. I got up as usually at 7AM. Parents already sat at the table eating oatmeal and drinking orange juice.
,,Good morning."
,,Good morning, sunshine!" smiled dad at me. Mom even didn't bother to answer me.
,,How did you sleep?" asked dad.
,,Well, thanks." I went to the kitchen corner, made some scrambled eggs and my favorite green tea. It was sunny morning and sun irradiated whole kitchen including the table. There was nice atmosphere around.
,,Hey, I'll make you sandwich, so go for your stuff so we won't be late, okay?" said dad.
,,Okay, I'm going." Dad was taking me every morning to school because it was during his way to work. He was an architect.
,,Chris, you're sandwich's done, we can go!"
,,I'm going, I just put my textbooks to bag." Five minutes to eight I stood in front of the door.
,,Dad! C'mon, or we'll be late!"
"I'm coming." He kissed my mom to cheek and she smiled first from the past days.
The way in the car was as always amazing. We just listened to Beatles and sang. It seemed like so much fun when I was 14. We laughed and everything was fine. It was one of the things that we've never shared with mom. It was like our little secret.
,,Christine, I'd like to explain why I wasn't home a couple of days," started dad and turned off the radio. He was always honest with me and appreciated it.
,, You need to understand that lots of people have to go to army right now. And I didn't go last year just because of my shoulder surgery," said heavily.
,,And that means what, daddy?" I asked like I was totally stupid.
,,I have to board to army in a month. And be there for 3 years at least." When he said that it was the first time when he didn't smile at me.
,,Your mom doesn't know yet, so please don't tell her. I just wanted to tell you first."
,,I really do appreciate that you told me first, dad. But you should tell mom. She has right to know it."
,,Of course, I'll tell her. Today," smiled nervously and it was obvious that he was relieved because he could tell someone. I tried to not think about that he'll be gone so long but it was hard. I couldn't imagine that he won't be home and appears just for a couple of days. Dad dropped me off in front of school, got out of the car and hugged me. I felt that this was different. It wasn't that everyday hug, he always said goodbye with. I felt warm drop on my scruff. He cried.
,,You okay, daddy?" I asked as softly as I could.
,,I'm okay, enjoy the school," he told me.
,,I love you so much and I always will. You're my little sunshine," whispered me in the ear.
,,I love you too. So much, dad."
,,We'll see after school, okay? I'll be sonner home from work. And don't forget in what time is your bus going."
,,Don't worry, I won't," I promised. He was just about to leave but at the last second he turned toward me and said:
,,Never forget, I love you."
,,I love you too," I said and saw him how he left to car.
At school I thought about everything but not learning. I still had to think why did dad act like this. He never cried. At least in front of me.
,,Hewitt! To the blackboard!" I heard suddenly. Everyone popped up. But I heard the teachers' voice like miles away.
,,Hewitt! Pay attention! I said to blackboard!! You have grade between A and B."
I had dry throat in one second and I heard how fast my heart beats. I knew he was going to ask me questions. I learned all of this all weekend but after the conversation with dad it all seemed to disappear.'
,,So, repeat us please some bones in face." We was learning this last week, so you should know it." I was silent. I knew I repeated it yesterday. But now I wouldn't even be able to say what my name is. In front of my eyes I still saw my dad. Leaving.
,,Hewitt! Are you even know what question I just asked?"
,,I'm sorry. Could you please repeat the question Mr. Wilson?" I asked as politely as I could.
,,What bones do you know in face?" he repeated. I was just silent a while but then I finally answered.
,,I don't know, sir."
,,So, miss doesn't want A or B, she wants apparently straight C! Go and sit at your seat." I didn't care. Today it wasn't importatnt. The only thing that was important today was to make sure dad's home when I'll come back from school. The time was so slow. Seconds felt like minutes, minutes felt like hours and hours like days. I survived next 6 hours.
I was waiting for a school bus. Before it arrived, Alice, my friend from higher year, stood next to me.
,,Hi, Christine," said and grinned at me like usual.
,,How are you?"
,,I'm fine," I lied.
,,And how are you?"
,,Amazing! Ian just asked me to go to cinema with him!" she informed me. Thanks to god the bus just arrive so we got in. We sat like always at the back because we were getting off like ones of the last. Just 4 more stations. Three. Two. Now Alice got off. Just the last one. The bus stopped and I got off. Dad's car wasn't there.
