Strange Meeting

Info

What is it about Airports?

Meeting strangers, half-smiling if you recognize a vibe, and exchanging some details about your destination without any pressure of complimenting them or of wishing them on their birthday.

I travel a lot. It would not be wrong to say that I earn to travel and I save to travel. I was 16 years old when I took my first solo flight for studies. I remember crying in the airport's restroom. Obviously, I did what most of us do when we can't gauge what is happening. I called my mom. She told me to look around and see that almost everyone is carrying themselves with some unnatural calm. She made me believe that actually everyone was scared but the assurance of better things coming up is keeping them calm.

Maybe we all are these emotional reservoirs that keep everything 'Tupperware-tight' until we see the happy faces that have come to pick us up. Then there are hugs, kisses, smiles, laughs and most importantly the end of missing someone. Writers have an innate desire to feel, and I am the connoisseur of what it represents. By far, if you are getting what I mean, it means that my feelings are valid.

I have never met an airport that I didn't like. There is always a corner seat and a cafe that is open overnight. There are so many first drafts, incomplete stories and silly letters that I have written at the airports. I believe I have always wanted to tell stories without making eye contact and so I became a writer. The transit has never been only geographically, I have changed between departures and arrivals.

Is it just me or you feel it too, the thing they call airports.

P.S. You can also have pizzas at 6 in the morning in your sweatpants without any societal pressure.
