One evening at the tea
Amma to Achan: Kids have grown old Sau & Rem, taking care of themselves now….. I see a reflection of you in them
Achan to Amma: Ohh ….., you mean they are also busy with patients
Amma to Achan: ohhhh (little irritated. Women always get slightly irritated with bad jokes- the intensity depends on closeness to the person), you know what I mean
Achan to Amma: Yes, I know what you mean…so you are saying we have raised our kids very well.
Amma to Achan: Self-praise is good sometimes, isn’t it?
Achan to Amma (Smiled & then back to his newspaper, slightly ignoring Amma- or at least giving the impression)
Amma (1.8 % more irritated than before, but now smiling from within -while sipping tea and thinking) “I’m proud to be a wife of this man, I can’t imagine my life without him. Did I feel the same when I first met him? Hmm, I think so, or may be- or I don’t remember exactly, but I’m sure I always had a good feeling about it”
Achan (Internal talk) “I give all the credit to her to raise them good and manage everything. I cannot imagine doing anything without her. Even the tea won’t taste that good when she’s not around. Hmmm, the romance within me have not died yet” Slightly smiling
Amma (Sipping tea) why are you smiling?
Achan (Caught off guard) ohh nothing, these days news articles are funny.
Amma (Internal talks resumes) “I know why are you smiling, I have lived with you long enough to understand that Mr., you may think you have silently whispered within you, but I can hear it in my heart. Aeyyyo…why am I blushing? I don’t know why, but I still feel shy to express this love”
Achan : What happened? Why your cheeks are pink, is the tea Ok?
Amma (Did not say a word for 3.7 sec): Nothing
Achan : OK. (Then again internal talk resumes) “I know, why you are blushing Kunju, I have not grown old with you for nothing. I still need to check the pulse of my patients- but for you, I don’t even need that. But let me tell you one thing, meeting you may be a fate, becoming your friend may be a choice but falling in love with you I have no control on it. And I love you not only what you are, but for what I am when I am with you”
Amma: (Sipping team & internal talk resumes): “I wish I could say out loud, I want you for always, days, years and eternities. If you live to be a hundred and ten years old, I want to live to be hundred and ten minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”
(Getting 2.7 % more irritated then before now and internal thinking resumes) “I wish if you could only listen, that In all the world there is no heart for me like yours and In all the world, there is no love for you like mine. Happy Anniversary”
Achan (Internal talk): “I wish there was a word more than ‘love’ itself to convey what I feel for you. Happy Anniversary”
Both Achan & Amma got up from the table. Achan went to clinic to see patients, Amma went to kitchen to prepare dinner.
P.s: Sometimes love is best expressed when you say NOTHING AT ALL
