The Bunny and the Funny

I woke up with a confused mind. It was just another day, a boring day. I had to get up, make myself look presentable in the society and go to college like a normal student should. I had no interest in mingling with the society until I reached the college and meet my friends. Then I realized I was just too lazy to get ready. But then, I had to face that annoying guy from the next class. He thinks that he’s funny but he is just an irritating guy.

I hadn’t had a proper talk with him for a while and I didn’t wanna have one either. As expected, the day was like every other day, I prepared myself to go home when the classes got over. I had to take bus to home, so I walked to the bus stand which took five minutes from the college. On my way, I heard that annoying guy’s voice from the basketball court.

“Pass the ball here!” that guy screamed.

The ball was passed on to him and he made a shot. It seemed easier when he did it. He did not strain for the jump. But as usual he made that “I’m cool, ain’t I?” look and it pissed me off. I somehow decided to watch the game to the end. I was sitting near a tree and no one noticed me. I enjoyed the game, the weather was pleasant too. Evening breeze hit me several times and sometimes I was distracted from the game while enjoying the company of the wind and the presence of the tree beside me which wouldn’t leave my side unless I do.

When the game was over, I thought I would go home, but I wanted to sit for some more minutes there. The ground was empty, I walked towards the court and jumped. “Whoosh!” I heard the wind very clearly. I was 7 feet above the ground. Yes! I had this ability, I can jump higher.

“Thud!”

I turned around “Madhav?” of the whole college, he happened to encounter this, the annoying guy. I was frustrated.

“How do you do that?” he was surprised.

“Forget this happened” I walked out of there. He followed me as I ran away from that place. But he was fast. I gave up and stopped running to face him.

“Finally you stopped, I don’t think you have to run away from me.”

“I do not have any reason to talk with you.”

“Like you see, now that I know about your ability, I think you can at least explain me.”

“Why should I explain to you?”

“Okay! It’s up to you. I am just curious.”

Once again, I ran away from that guy, that day.

The next day he was standing in front of his class I intentionally ignored him. I had many chances to meet him that day, he smirked at me every time. I pretended to be involved in the chats with my friends and I pretended to day dream and I also knew that I was unnatural. At one point I was annoyed by his smirk. He walked past me, I called out his name. He was perplexed, “Yes?”

“I think we should talk.”

His friends were behind, “I want you to teach me this part.” I opened the book I had and showed him that.

“Sure, why not.”

He excused himself from his friends and led me to the canteen.

“So, Miss. Bunny…” he started. “My name is ‘Bani’ not ‘Bunny’.

“What does it mean? Your name.”

“It refers to Goddess Saraswati.”

“But ‘Bunny’ suits you well” he smiled.

I frowned at him and continued, “I called you to say that you should not say anyone about me. And don’t smirk at me like that every time you see me.”

“Don’t be a Grinch. I enjoy smiling at others and lighten up their day. That was not at all a smirk.”

“Whatever!”

“Don’t worry I’m not gonna talk about you with anyone.” He left the place as he said this.

I feel pathetic and I overreacted, even though I realized it, there was no way to undo that. I was sitting in the same place for an hour and went back to the class. I had kaleidoscopic thoughts for the whole day.

There was no one in the basketball court that day. I stood by the same tree and was trying to calm down. He was not even my friend, that’s what I thought. Then I remembered the first time I came to know about my own ability.

I was in the kindergarten by that time, the innocent me was playing with a ball. The ball was thrown on to the roof of a building nearby. Every one of my classmates was jumping to get the ball, so I jumped too. But the difference was that I reached the ball. Instead of merriment, I found every one being scared of me.

I decided that day, that I will never show anyone about my ability. Suddenly, I saw Madhav running across the ground. He stopped as he saw me and waved at me to come there. I ran towards him as I guessed he was in a hurry.

“Hey Bunny girl, come along with me.” I had no time to think about anything. I did as he said.

“Why are you running?” I asked on the way too wherever he was leading.

“I need your help.” He paused “You have the right to know so I will say now.”

“What?”

“I too have some ability, a special one, as you do.”

I looked at him, he was serious.

“I can sense things.”

“Like?”

“Like, I can sense an accident and your marks in upcoming exams. I get lots of déjà vu.”

“Is it like a vision? Do you see future?”

“No! My senses just lead me what to do next and to avoid damages.”

“Does your senses asked you to get my help?”

“Probably, I guess.”

It is insane, what was that? Senses? Déjà vu? “So, you are a ‘Mad guy’.” I giggled.

“Sheesh! At least you can call me ‘Maddy’.”

“I’ll try. Where are we going now?”

“It is somewhere dark. I can only show you.” They ran past nearby alleys. And reached high ways.

“I wonder why we are so energetic, we don’t get tired when we have run many kilometers.” I said.

“It is because of our ability. If we are endowed with supplementary abilities, we can accomplish the purpose of this blessing.”

“You have quite a knowledge about this stuff, don’t you?”

He looked so proud of himself. There were not much of vehicles nor any buildings on the way. Only bushes and trees or dry land was visible to us. Maddy stopped in place from where a building was visible into the bushes.

“There is no time. Follow me!” he ran towards the building. When we reached the building, we found it abandoned, dark and something negative was lingering around it. Maddy slowly entered the building. It was weird. I could say that it was not an ordinary building, there were four doors inside. It was a trap. Why would there be a trap? My life was no longer an ordinary one.

“I think he is in one of those doors.” He said.

“Who?” I asked. “The one who is gonna turn the world upside down…. Turning the world upside down?!?” even he was shocked as words flowed through his mouth. Then, I could no longer doubt his ability, because even he wasn’t aware of what he was saying.

“Let us explore through two doors each. That would do, I think” I waited for his response.

“Roger!” he made a fist bump with me. “Call me when you find that person and I’ll do the same.” he extended his phone to exchange numbers. After exchanging numbers, we headed towards the doors. Then we nodded at each other and entered the door. It was pitch dark. I reached out for my mobile phone’s torch. The door had nothing inside but a dark pathway. The path led me to a room which was empty. Then I ran out of the room towards the door and opened the second door.

The second door was similar. It was pitch dark and empty. My phone rang I thought it was Maddy and rushed to take it. But it was from Mom. She was worried that I was late. I lied that I was studying at my friend’s house and could get late. I also texted my friend about it.

After exploring through the second empty room, I was waiting for Maddy. I wondered why there were four doors, it was not even a trap, but more like a prank. Then again my phone rang. It was Maddy, “The first door I took, come through it.” then he suddenly screamed “Come as soon as possible.” and then I heard noises of two persons fighting.

I ran into the first door, the sound was coming from upstairs. I decided to try something, I made up my mind and made a jump. My head hit the ceiling, I broke through it to reach Maddy. “What!” he exclaimed.

“May be my head is just too hard!” it was a news for me too. We were in the terrace.

There was a ball like thing flying above a table, beside it was a paper in which I could see some writings or formula like things. I understood that it was a manual to use that round thing. A guy was standing there who wore a mask.

“We have to stop him.” Maddy screamed. He started to fight with that guy. I intended to us the opportunity to stop it. I looked into the paper. It said that the ball which is naturally green in colour would turn blue on activating it. Then it would slowly turn black and black grains would float around the thing. That’s when, we human being would get reverse gravitation. Simply, it meant that, human beings would get separated from the earth still being in the earth.

Maddy was doing his part well. His punches were effective. The masked guy was fighting against him to reach me while Maddy protected me from him. But unfortunately, the masked guy was not to be underestimated, he kicked Maddy to push him away and reached me. I tried to stop him doing anything with the globe (now that I know what it is used for, I can call it a mini globe). I fought with him, I was offensive initiating the fight but he was strong. I was taken down, then he pushed a button on the globe and started to laugh which was villainous. Then Maddy kicked him again. I stood up and went to look into the manuals.

I searched for a way to deactivate it. Before I get to that page, I started to float up in the air. I looked at Maddy, he was floating too. The man in the mask was not flying.

“Bunny, we are done!” he screamed and something pulled us upwards. We saw many people flying like us up in the air. We stopped flying at one point and landed on a cloud and above us was the land with trees and other things which were on the land.

“What are we gonna do now?” I asked.

“Can you down there? I mean, up there?”

“I don’t know. But I shall try.” I hesitated. I hadn’t used my ability for a while.

“You have to carry me Bunny.” he looked at me with his eyebrows up.

“Are you serious?”

“Yes! I am.”

I went near him, I didn’t know how I would carry him. I was confused, he put his hand around my neck and said, “Jump!” I tried to jump. I was not even 7 feet above the clouds. He then smirked at me.

“I think it is too much for you, let me….” I cut his line in between and said “No! I can!” I took a long breath and jumped we were flying towards the land. The plan was to grab a tree and to move hanging on to it. But we had no idea how to reach the house without trees’ help.

We had got a grip of the trees and started going towards the destination. It was painful as we were being pulled from the opposite side. I was afraid what we would do if one of us or both fell down from broken branches. So I was extra careful with grabbing a strong branch. If I were to be the person to fall down, I would jump again easily as I know how far I can jump. But if he was to fall down, it would be the worst case, since I too have to go down and carry him up again.

I heard branches breaking, “Bunny!” he cried. The worst case was happening. Maddy was falling. I closed my eyes and was getting ready to fall down too. “I am here Bunny.” I heard Maddy’s voice beside me. I opened my eyes to see him flying in the air with the wings.

“What does it mean?”

“It means I can fly. You know, birds can sense the calamities and save themselves, my abilities are similar to the birds.” he smiled.

“Then why did you make me carry you all the way up?”

“I was about to say, but you were too persistent that you cut my lines and jumped.”

I then remembered him saying something and me ignoring him. “Okay fine. Let us go!” I said.

Then there we were, the house was near. Maddy offered to carry me there.

“Even if you carry me there, how will you stop it with me?”

“You remember that guy? He was not flying. So there should be something to prevent it. Let us find it first.”

Luckily, the masked man was not there. Maddy carried me there and took the manual to find anything to help me. The manual said that there was a shoe which would help not to be affected by the reverse gravity and it also said that it would only affect the human beings. The shoe was made of animals’ cells, then it all came to senses. Maddy just dropped me in the house and said, “Just believe that you are a real bunny.”

I understood, as it wouldn’t affect the animals, it would not affect us who were bestowed with animals’ abilities. “But why were we pulled up?” I asked.

“Because we were not using our abilities back then, we were just acting like human beings unconscious of our powers.” We both believed it and tried to and on the terrace of the building. It really worked out. Whiskers had grown out in my face just like Maddy had grown his wings up.

We did not want to waste time exclaiming at ourselves. So we started to find a way. It looked like an insane person had experimented his invention. It was all scribbling all over the manual. It was really creepy to know that that little globe had pushed away all the human beings from the world. Going through the manuals, we found that there should be a power button for this globe. But it was in a remote, said the manuals.

“It should be with that guy. Let us find him.” said Maddy.

We ran down stairs and searched through the building. We had to search through the remaining three doors too. The two doors explored by me were empty so we decided to search the second door of Maddy. As we had expected, he was sitting there writing something.

“You can’t escape now, can you?” Maddy said and proved that he was full of himself.

“Don’t just be a talk fight him already.” I had already decided how to take him down. I just had to use the force which I use to jump in my hands. I had to take him with my fists.

“How can you be here!” the man exclaimed and took the chair in his hands and threw it towards us. Maddy came forward, broke the chair and ran towards him to throw a punch on his face. I too joined the fight. It was the first time using my powers like that and I felt that I was good at it.

“Why are you doing this?” I asked the masked guy.

“It is fun, isn’t it?” he laughed.

“Psycho!” said Maddy and threw a final punch he fell down laughing. Maddy looked for the remote in the man’s pockets. The man didn’t protest. It seemed, he was happy that his experiment was successful. Maddy finally found the remote.

We ran to the globe and read the manual. It said that they had to press the button on the globe first. And then draws vertical line really slowly to bring back the panicked people down safely. If it was drawn down quickly, people would probably hit the ground and get hurt.

Maddy did as the manual mentioned. As soon as the line was drawn, they saw people flying down slowly. The colour of the globe got blue from black. Then, they had to push the power button on the remote to deactivate it completely. The globe then turned green and then got shut down.

Both of us sighed and laughed as we were successful. Then we had to produce the man to the respective authority. We did not want to reveal our identity. The guy was weak to fight back. So we tied him up and took every evidence we got to produce them to the authorities, left him along with the evidence in the police station and left. We had to have our own sign so we wrote ‘Bunny and Funny’ in the letter which explained the situation.

“Why is it ‘Bunny and Funny’ but not ‘Bunny and Maddy’?” I asked.

“Because it is not rhyming.” he said with a carefree smile in his face.

“You cannot be helped. Let’s go!”

Our first adventure came to an end with Maddy’s madness.

“Do you wanna work with me?” he asked.

“You don’t leave me a choice when you are such an idiot.” I said.
