The Girl in the Portrait

She draped herself perfectly
In his favourite red gown
And poised for a portrait
Of a girl uptown

Her makeup untainted
A beauty to behold
But behind her mask
Was a story untold

Her silken caramel hair
Cascaded down flattering her waist
Craved the touch of his fingers
With his scent still unerased

Her gorgeous eyes with mascara
Consumed anyone's attention
Yet a mystery in her stare
Conveyed a tearful deception

Her wide alluring smile
Puckered the corners of her lips
As they struggled hard to stay
Through the pages of life's uncontrolled flips

Her scarred heart held on
To every portion of his memories
Her broken soul still a part of his being
Slowly succumbed to countless vagaries

The girl in the portrait
Was indeed a beauty to behold
Alas, with the loss of the one she loved so dearly
Darkness patently began to enfold
