The Harbinger.

Info

I got up today at my usual side
Slapped the alarm off
When I heard a pale cough

Yelped, I leaned at my bed
Rummaged through the cobwebs nest
To find my gun in the desk.

Terrified, I cock my gun at the foreign darkness
Panting heavily I said,
"Put your hands over your head."

The eerie darkness remained calm
My breathing grew heavy
Had I dreamt the cough maybe?

Sweat slid down my cheeks
As I kept aiming my gun
Across the room, at no one.

Slowly, I put out my gun
When a silhouette revealed itself
That leaned on by my bookshelf.

Only unlit blackness floated amidst us
The pre luminescent cracked in unison
As the sun announced its ascension.

I gaped at the silhouette
After confirming my suspicion
I closed my eyes and fired my gun.

The bullet jerked itself from the nozzle
Flew across the room at the figure.
My finger danced shakily at the trigger.

I squinted my eyes to read the trajectory of the bullet
It ran through the figure, onto my door.
And I readied myself to clean up the gore.

I exhaled a relief
And placed my feet by the bed
To see the man standing there, undead.

A smirk played at his mouth
My eyes widened as my lips parted
He approached at me and my heart halted.

A black hood concealed his head
Nails grew from his fingers
And he said, "I'm the harbinger."

I lined his gaze and trembled with uncertainty
"Of what?" I plead
"Your death." he said.

My heart thumped louder than ever
His nails caressed my neck
And I groomed myself to disconnect.

His nails pinched through my neck
And I looked at him, a face so broken
Before closing my eyes, to finally open.
