The Social Media Friend

Info

“All these months, I have been searching for a friendship, a bond with you. But I had never been in existence for you. I fall, I fail and I repeat the same. But you know what hurts the most? It’s when the same reason makes you fall again. And for me, you are that reason.” Alissa was weeping badly now. At the other end, Dev was sitting clueless with his phone, “I am Sorry Alissa, but I have no clue why are you upset?”

Stop being a jerk. Don’t ever text me again.” Alissa replied.

Every day she had fought with herself. She had told herself not to fall for Dev. Coffee with friends, Gossips with the girl gang and social media scrolling were all temporary cure. She distracted herself, she kept herself engaged, she turned herself busier and there she fell in love with him again. Bitter the bond grew, yet occupied the heart became with his images.

A year back, a social media addicted girl Alissa started turning her addiction towards another social media hunk, unknowingly. From stalking to daily exchange of few words, Alissa hardly knew that her social media addiction was getting blurred with the virtual presence of this guy, Dev. The conversation was never personal, yet a pinch of it was always sugar-dipped for her.

But as they say, “Nothing is permanent.” A flower too leaves its fragrance. Alissa was least concerned about what her mind was developing and so she started ignoring the brain-warnings. Her addiction was turning severe, which she thought, is just her hope that someday she will turn this virtual bond into a real one. This made her expectations grew along with her addiction. Dev never made any kind of commitment to this virtual bond. However, he was unaware of every such psychological change which was slowly but strongly taking place in Alissa’s mind.

Alissa used to fight with him and Dev used to handle it without any care. She used to sleep after every fight because that’s how her mind used to settle things. On the other hand, he used to sleep after every fight, because he never found any reason to settle those things which he already felt were organised. She wished him Good morning everyday because that’s how she wanted to begin her day. He, however, had different replies for the same. Sometimes it would be good afternoon, sometimes it would be Sorry! Was busy all day. Tired now. Good Night. To her surprise sometimes he would ask about her to which she thought it was her lucky day.

It’s been a year now, but the relation is still limited to internet and the feelings are still under firewall security.

(Present Day)

After another fight she slept to clear her brain for a fresh morning. Next day, her phone beeped. It was him.

Good Morning.

Morning.

She smiled and said to herself, “God, I am in love with him again”.
