I can't believe this. I can't chat with anyone anymore. Even though the internet connection was bad enough, I could've talked to Penny about all this. It was just about an hour when we got of the dirty grey car and rode the old rickety boat when my dad snatched my Iphone and my Nintendo 3DS. Why is he such a persistent guy? Why can't he just understand that I'm never gonna forgive him for what he did? Why can't he just deal with me being like this? Can't he just get a life on his own?
Now I'm just here in my lodge room. It's not much but he forced me here after all, no going back now. It's got reddish-brown tiles and some really bad wallpapers. I wish I wouldn't have to be here again, It's not really as good as that hotel we were in.
"Um..." A knock sounded on the bamboo door. "Could we be friends?"
It sounded like it was from the other side. Why would anyone try to call for some stranger to be their friend? It's dark now too.
I had to do something, but what was there to do? I'm not sure I want to end up on someone's lot being gagged up and sold as a slave or even worse...
But I went forward anyway, I opened the door.
It was the boy, I forgot his name but I'm sure he was the one who always goes with my bastard of a father. He was smiling and I was at unease. The corridors were empty, just me and this... weirdo.
"You didn't answer my question." He then gave me this very cool look. It's like his personality went from one downright native naivete to a supernaturally urbanized kid, I was extremely unprepared.
"Now, I know you're sore from your dad's horrible behavior but you gotta calm yourself down. So, I thought that maybe we could talk. You know, Spend some time to get to know each other before this whole trip ends."
I seemed to have agreed because later on he was already preparing food in the kitchen area of my room (which, of course, I had no idea was there.)
"Where do you live?" I had to ask. He was beginning to be interesting, more interesting than the Costa Marina Fish Deluxe I had for dinner yesterday.
"I'm not exactly from this area, I come from a farther island in the south called Eli Santina. It's a very very lush tropical paradise with ugh... Traditions I wouldn't exactly think you'll want to be interested in." He said, I guess I shouldn't be asking about them.
"What are you cooking over there?" I guess that was what I should've asked first.
"I'd like to surprise you but since you asked... It's a barbecue. One special recipe from my grandmother which sends all the tribe's greatest fighters in paradise." He glances at me from the counter tops to give a wink.
I had fun waiting because he began telling me these legends from his place. Like one where his grandmother and his mute grandaunt were in the forest, and that his grandmother saw this big snake. I remember him talking about how his cousin ended up having a tooth broken of by one accidental punch while he was dancing.
Now, I knew why it was so dark in the room before, He took the drapery off a part of the walls and opened this balcony. It was the whole coastal area with lit up torches. It was a warm feeling I never felt before. The palm trees where also lit up by what looked like paper lanterns. Some kids were dancing by a pond that looked like a mini-oasis of sorts, I saw a young maiden put some flowers on the pond and then clapping.
"It's called Dhumara, from the legend of the Lotus Queen." He must have teleported to my side. "The Lotus Queen, Uphia, once had a beautiful garden. Her favorite part was the pond. She always played with the lilies, the hibiscus flowers but most of all the lotus blossoms were her favorite. She had lived alone her whole life and was looking for someone to be her king."
I laughed because he was heaving for a moment from saying all that. Man, What a storyteller he was.
"...haha... Now, She travelled all over the region looking for a king but every man was a problem to her. King Eon always made fun of everyone in insulting ways, he was always mean-spirited. King Domas never ever kept a tidy palace and went to the point that he did not hire maids for he was too lazy. Many other kings were there but I forgot..."
"She went back to her palace with a broken heart. Her sadness filled the palace and killed every living thing... except the Lotus flowers. So she played with them until she found a shiny stone underneath. When she took it, A man was standing in front of her!"
"What's your name?" I was confused about how I didn't ask this at first. I had to know.
"It's Tora, If I was in Sweden or Norway they might have thought that I was a girl but here it means tiger child." Is it me or does he give out too much information about himself.
"What happened to the Lotus Queen?" I asked for the sake of knowing what happened.
"She became an angel, the man who took her was Harrut. Harrut is the god of love in our folklore legends. It is said when you place a lotus on any pond around the island, you will find true love." he then went on to offer the barbeque."
I took a munch.
"Yes." I said
"What do you mean?" He was confused.
"Yes, we can be friends."
