THREATENED SURVIVAL

I feel like crying.
This isn't how it is supposed to be.
I can't seem to find humanity.
The world deserves more than this,
We, humans, are more than this.

 It is heartbreaking--
Seeing how people treat one another.
With those cautious eyes:
Fear, panic, disgust, and racism--
They are reflected from the inside.

Aren't we all just humans?
Our life is borrowed,
And death is the price to pay.
So why are we giving cold shoulder
To the ones who need warmth the most?

I guess, it's natural.
It's a human instinct to survive.
We all are basically selfish creatures.
Our survival is threatened, 
So we struggle to fight for it.

Even when it means:
Turning your back away,
Betraying the people near you,
Pushing away those who might drag you down--
With your eyes filled with caution and doubt.

And the funny thing is that
We become the person we don't want us to be
We become the character we hated in movies
We become that selfish villain we hated the most.
Isn't it ironic?

When we are in pinch,
We wished to be saved by anyone
Despite the condition we are going through.
But now that other people need us,
We end up getting threatened.

We stay away from them,
Treating them with disgust and fear.
It's heartbreaking.
I feel like I'm about to cry.

Why did it turn out like this?

Ah, humans.
They become selfish when their survival is threatened
They forgot others, and have become monsters.
