his hands always managed to find her
traced circles over her palms mindlessly,
leaving superficial imprints on her skin surface
arm slung over shoulders, but it’s not a weight;
it raises her higher than any drink she could complete
he didn’t have a fucking clue of the magnitude
[all he knew was he allured her]
a simple kiss against her collarbone
always results in a quick intake of air,
an ‘oh’ that seemed so unnoticeable to others
but echoed in his ears for hours on end
what a sight to watch indeed.
neither ever realized, but they
moved towards each other,
reached out for each other
one second they’d be sitting across
the lunch table, watching Donald Trump’s speech
the next their fingers were interlocked
and their smiles couldn’t be held back
The Presidential Elections of 2016
may have been awful,
but in that moment,
it didn’t matter
think back to that chubby teacher
whose smudged lipstick always
matched her ironed saree
standing near the blackboard announcing:
“lab coats on the right, beakers and test tubes on the left”
[with a lowly assistant hanging around to assist]
welcome to Chemistry 101.
