Tips for Planning a Baby Shower

Info

A baby shower is a fun way to get together and celebrate the new life that’s coming into the world. If you’re planning a baby shower for the first time, you might need some help; in this article, we take a look at some helpful hints and tips for planning the perfect baby shower.

Send out the invites a few weeks in advance

Often people have very busy schedules, and asking them to attend a last-minute baby shower might be a bit of a challenge. To ensure the maximum number of guests can attend, you should send out the invitations a few weeks in advance. This gives everyone plenty of time to purchase a gift, arrange a babysitter etc., and they’re less likely to have other things already on the calendar.

Think of a theme

A themed baby shower is often much easier to plan and organise compared to one without a theme. The decorations, activities and even the presents can be focused on the chosen theme. When you’re deciding on the theme, think about the person you’re organising the baby shower for and their interests. They may already have a theme picked out for the nursery that you can use for the baby shower; any presents that go with the theme will work perfectly in their nursery. The theme doesn’t need to be complicated; some easy examples include jungle animals, nature or princesses.

Arrange catering

A crucial part of any baby shower is catering; you need to make sure you get enough food for everyone and that the food is of good quality. Some people choose to have a full sit-down meal for their baby shower, whereas others prefer more buffet-style catering. Whatever you choose, count the number of guests you’re expecting to ensure you have enough, if not a bit more, for potential extra guests. In addition, make sure you cater for any allergies or dietary requirements of the people attending the baby shower. Catering also needs to provide drinks as well as food. Some people enjoy sparkling wine at a baby shower as a way to celebrate and a welcome drink for guests. Just remember, if you are serving sparkling wine, get some alcohol-free bottles so the mum-to-be can also take part and enjoy celebrating alongside the guests.

Consider a gift registry list

Many parents already have most of the things they need by the time the baby shower comes around. A gift registry list is, therefore, a helpful way to ensure they don’t get duplicate items or things that they don’t need. The list should include a range of items with different price points so people can choose to buy a small or a large gift. Even if you do have a gift registry list, don’t be surprised if people buy other things that aren’t on that list; this is very common, especially when it comes to baby showers.

Arrange activities or entertainment

To keep your guests from getting bored and to enable the party to flow, you should have a range of activities or entertainment as part of the baby shower. You can find many great baby shower games online or get in professionals to help entertain guests. Classic baby shower activities include guessing the weight and birth date of the baby, sniffing nappies to identify different chocolate treats and baby shower bingo. If you want a different style baby shower, you could opt for a live musician or comedian entertainer to keep your guests entertained.

Planning a baby shower can take some time, but with the right tips and help from people, you can arrange something that the parents-to-be will always remember. Just remember to plan in advance and invite guests early to make sure everyone can make it. Other great tips include having a theme, arranging catering, having a gift registry and making sure you arrange activities or entertainment to stop things getting boring. When planning any event, you should have one person that’s the leader and a team of other people that can help with other elements such as decorations, catering and entertainment. This will help the baby shower run smoothly and take the pressure off the main organiser.
