I had one true name:
“Blind.”
Simple, straightforward and scientific.
Name that didn’t distance me from the truth.
Name that displayed my disability in its nudity.
Name that wasn’t a cocoon miles away from reality.
Name that didn’t blanket me with innate extraordinariness.
Name that didn’t bias me beneath the yoke of exception.
Name that didn’t fling baskets of expectations.
Name that in a word told the world “who I really was.”
But now you’ve invented several ingenious tags such as
Visually impaired, visually challenged,
Differently abled, specially talented,
Special, god’s child,
Gifted, blessed
And try to tie them around my neck!
I’m none of these.
I still believe I have only one true name.
