Type of Emotional Support Animals

Info

In many parts of the world, the dog has for a long time being used as a therapy animal. However, recent times have seen an increase in the number of other types of animals that are used for their psychological benefits. For instance, emotional support animals have been found to help children with learning disabilities with mental and behavioral health. Some programs have even found the use of animals such as dogs in helping children focus on learning through the nourishment of the excellent motor skills.

Courtrooms have also experienced an increase in the number of emotional support animals. Here, victims that testify in a face-to-face situation with their perpetrators are given therapy animals to help them deal with the trauma. This article focuses on the different types of animals that you can choose from for your emotional support.

• Dogs-Emotional support dogs will come in all sizes and shapes. Some owners might even add tags that may say, ‘I am friendly. Pet me if you can’. In this case, you could even ask for permission to interact with the animal. For dogs, they are flexible in the sense that you are able to travel with them almost everywhere. The unique thing is that you can even air travel with your emotional support dog. However, for this case, there are limitations of sizes with regards to the different airline policies. • Cats-Cats have also been used in therapy for a long time. They have been perfect substitutes especially t individuals that are intimidated by dogs. Cats will provide you with the same level of emotional support as dogs. The only difficulty with cats is that they are not easily transported especially in long journeys. The unique thing is that you can learn how to fly with your emotional support animal if you pop over to these guys. Cats are covered by most airline policies and hence getting an ESA letter for your cat to cater for your travel obligations should not be a big issue. Cats have been found to help those who have dementia particularly. A special cat called Maine Coon is also famed with helping a young girl with an autism diagnosis speak again.

• Horses-Horses are associated with equine therapy which is essential for persons with a multitude of behaviors. In this, caring for such a huge animal gives these individuals perfect breaks from disruptive behaviors and thoughts. Besides, as an individual learns to take care of the horse, they are bound to gain confidence which consequently lowers the anxiety levels. Interacting with the horse will boost social skills and blood pressure is also lowered. Rides will also have therapeutic benefits especially with regards to anger management. However, this type of animal is not ideal for traveling with. It, therefore, means that by choosing a horse, you will be deprived of your emotional support when you travel over long distances.

• Smallies and Reptiles-Small animals such as rabbits and parrots provide a convenient form of emotional support. In addition to comfort and companionship, small animals will also come in handy in boosting your fine motor skills. Smaller animals are also ideal as they are easily manageable. On the other hand, the use of reptiles as ESA’s is on the rise. In addition to the mental support they accord to individuals, they will also give unmatched surges of confidence especially due to their uncommon nature.

The above shows diversity in the choice of emotional support animals. Ensure that you chose the one that is convenient for you at all times.
