Collaborative leadership occurs when the management works closely with employees at every level to meet deadlines & complete projects. Establishing collaborative leadership at your workplace can improve the competence of employees by encouraging them to work together and include multiple perspectives on the assigned projects.

In this article, we will have an elaborated view on collaborative leadership and explore how one can become a collaborative leader.

What is collaborative leadership?

Collaborative leadership is a model of working, which allows leaders to work alongside their team. It creates an environment where managers work alongside their team; provide transparent information & work together to achieve the target. Managers who are collaborative leaders help their teams achieve their targets, also makes sure that teams who are associated with them are able to complete their projects, which promotes cooperation across the office.

Collaborative leadership allows leaders to share information with their resources, who can then add to their organization more analytically. It also helps managers take decisions collectively as a team, as employees and managers work together in every department to find the most efficient solutions for reaching to their targets.

Collaborative leaders often demonstrate these skills and traits:

Trust: Trusting your employees with every piece of information, taking inputs & maintaining a clear communication.

Motivation: Another important trait for a collaborative leader is to be able to motivate their team. Positive attitude & a healthy work environment help professionals work with their maximum potential, instead of creating a rat-race environment.

Delegation: To delegate skill-based tasks to their teams, helping them stay encouraged and motivated throughout.

Communication: In collective meetings or one-on-ones, a collaborative leader will always seek for inputs or feedback from the team, in order to have clarity on parameters of the situation & develop a more synchronized way of functioning.

Transparent: Transparency is one of the most important traits of a collaborative leader, he/she must provide necessary information to their team with no manipulation.

Conflict management: Facilitating a healthy discussion at the time of conflicts, that seeks to solve the issue at the center of the conflict and improve the relationships within the group.
