You were a sunflower and I was a little bee,
Blossoming each day, your beauty I would love to see,
From afar and never came close to thee,
I buzzed around the flowers that would open up to me.
They were the ones growing nearby you,
Beautiful and bright, and they liked me too,
But all I wanted was to get close to the one,
Who only lights up while looking up at the sun.
There were other bees lurking as well,
One of them seemed to hold you by a spell,
All of this took me by shock and surprise,
I felt I'm not good enough, coz you were a prize,
Did you ever take notice of how I gazed at you?
So entangled in your thoughts, did you ever wonder too?
My plan backfired and I was at a loss,
I was swept up by daisies, my life went up for a toss,
For years my sunflower would light up my dreams,
Surely plucked by someone, in life's various schemes,
Searched everywhere but she was never to be found,
I wished I had hummed to her when she used to be around.
I will never know about how things would have been,
Maybe I would be a drunk, by the nectar of her skin,
Even if it would burn me I would face the sun with her,
Only the sun would make her smile, she was my dear sunflower.
