A Little More Clarity On VoIP
In the last few months, a lot of people are starting to learn the term Voice Over IP, or internet-based phone service. This is an indication of the speed at which it's growing. While just a few years ago VoIP was obscure It is now becoming a word that is starting to be used in a variety of households.
But what is becoming evident is that many people aren't sure the definition of VoIP or have misperceptions about it, and aren't aware of the distinct characteristics that distinguish VoIP from the traditional phone service.
I'm hoping to clear a lot of it up right now!
Let's begin by defining the basics. Voice Over IP is simply telephone service that uses an internet connection instead of a landline. The phone you use is an adapter that is connected to your modem instead of plugging the phone into the phone jack on the wall.
Do you see the big picture? We're taking the telephone line at your home away from the picture.
What people are confused is right here. Many people are considering online software that permits users to connect the camera and microphone on your computer to communicate with someone who is online. While this can be done using the internet for communication but the VoIP that we're talking about here is a real phone service that permits you to use your phone the way you've always used it.
Same phone, the same number, the same dialing patterns. The same thing applies; the only notable difference is the phone bill, which is less.
Are you with me thus far? It's not an online camera or microphone in a chatroom. This is a real phone service, with a real number and a genuine phone. Did you get it? Great!
After we've got the basics covered we can go into more details, and some of the features I consider makes VoIP different and beneficial. The primary ones are unrestricted calls (US and Canada at the very basic level) All the calling capabilities by other phone companies, which they charge additional fees for numbers portsability and phone to number portability videophone capabilities, very low international costs and absolutely FREE for customers across the world, and huge tax savings.
So let's review each of them in detail. Unlimited calling as well as the features for calling are a matter of fact. You can purchase an unlimited plan for $25 per month. This includes unlimited calls to at minimum in the US and Canada and includes all the features for calling you can imagine: 3-way call waiting calling, call forwarding, blast, voicemail, etc. Many phone companies charge extra for certain features included in VoIP.
Do you use a home phone? It's okay to keep that number if you switch to VoIP. What happens if you relocate? In contrast to traditional phone services your account and number do not have an actual location, such as your home. If you move, you can take your adaptor and VoIP phone along with you. Your details are programmed into your VoIP adaptor.
This means that your VoIP adapter will work wherever around the globe (for the majority of VoIP companies) so long as you have a fast internet access. The number will remain the same. For example I have family members who live overseas. They have a VoIP phone, that has an US number. It means I can dial the local number and it ring over there , and reverse. It is possible to take the phone and travel wherever they want to go connect it to the internet at a high speed and it will be exactly the same phone number, and function exactly the same.
Are you still with me? Good!
This is a feature that also overlaps with the next feature, which is international calling. International calls are very affordable due to the fact that calls originate from the internet instead of using a landline phone number for a business. If you're talking to a VoIP customer from anywhere around the globe (on identical service) it's considered to be an international, free call.
Additionally to that, and among my top choices can be the benefit of tax-free savings. A plan for unlimited calls with traditional phone services can vary from $40-50, and include around $15-20 in taxes, based on which part of the nation you're located in. Taxes for VoIP could range from $2.50. This is more than $17 that you'll save just on taxes! This was the first thing that caught my eye while I was checking out the website.
As previously mentioned there is also a the capability to use a videophone. There are a few companies that provide this service, and not all provide good quality. However, there are a handful of companies that offer an excellent videophone service. Being able see the person in real-time while you're in conversation particularly if they're distant relatives and friends is an incredible feature that I've thoroughly loved and enjoyed sharing with others.
I hope that this has given you an enlightened image of VoIP and its features and advantages it provides. If you'd like more information or have any questions contact me. contact me at any one of us!
