We WERE Happy; You're Still...

We were happy. We were together walking the street under the weather. I held the umbrella while talking to you. You were looking at me as if you wanted me to stay beaming, even after the end of this road. I thought it would last because we were happy, and that’s all I saw.

I was happy; I still am. But my smile back then was rare. It was genuine, and I don’t have it now. I was happy to be free. But the joy that once was steady, also flew with the truth that was revealed. I am happy, considering that happiness is not the absence of pain.

You were happy, and it filled up all the gaps of my existence. The way your eyes touched mine was like a shout of your confessions. Because you were so happy , I almost believed that the reason of your joy was me. But now I know that you were happy because you always have been.

You are happy, it never changed. The laugh that I’m hearing now is still as sweet as it was. The way you walk the street is still glorious and regal. The way you stare at me with the same old smile is telling me that nothing should change, because nothing started in the first place.

You're still happy, and now with the one you really love. Yes, you love me, is happy for me, and is staying with me because I was your friend ever since. You’re still happy, and oftentimes happier, because he is your lover and the reason why you want to live your life is him.

We are happy but now in our own separate ways. You are happy with me as you have always been. What I felt as an eternal bliss, to you was just a glimpse. I am happy because I love you. I am happier because you found your love. But I am happiest if you have loved me too like I would.
