Virginians can finally claim that marijuana is legal in their state. A bill was passed into law in 2020 after many hushed conflicts between the state legislature and the general people. It said that with a valid prescription from a physician licensed with the state, the use of marijuana for medical purposes is now permitted. The first dispensary in the state was able to open legally as a result of this statute. So, in 2021, a new law was established making it legal for adults to possess up to 1 ounce of marijuana for recreational purposes (28g). With all of them in place, the state rigorously and practically polices marijuana misuse.
The Virginia Cannabis Control Authority (CCA) was founded in 2021 by the Virginia General Assembly, which recognized it as the primary government jurisdiction on cannabis and gave it full authority to create, issue, and enforce cannabis regulations in Virginia. The 2021 legislation gave the CCA additional authority to launch programs and issue rules about numerous cannabis-related public health and safety issues.
