Why You Should Choose an Organic Baby Blanket

Info

Blankets can be a controversial topic in the world of baby care. As much as blankets are known to be soft and snug, if used in the wrong way it can lead to bad consequences. There are a few safe sleep recommendations for your baby, but one thing you should know is that loose bedding shouldn't be in their crib or bassinet, particularly so at a younger age.

Once they are past 12 months old, you can consider using blankets as swaddling cloths because these types of fabric offer protection from overheating while still being soft on skin at the same time. The benefits of swaddling your baby in a comfortable, wearable blanket are two-fold.

Not only does it help them feel secure and self soothe but by keeping their position motionless they learn how to relax which will improve the quality both night time sleeping as well during day time naps! A wearable blanket will help improve quality slumber by keeping them wrapped up safely so they can sleep without any fuss.

What you should keep in mind about blankets

If you're looking for a blanket that's breathable, safe and eco-friendly, you may want to go for an organic blanket option. Organic materials used for this purpose include wool, cashmere or cotton. Saying this, cotton is by far the best and most popular for this purpose and is widely used by parents all over the world.

What are the benefits of organic cotton?

Any type of product, including blankets, that are made from organic cotton means that it’s free of any trace of chemical fertilisers and pesticides. It is ensured that this is the case as organic farming and produce never introduces such things at any point for the farming process. The principle of organic produce is that it stays as close to natural principles and production techniques as possible. Whilst this is not necessary to produce clothes, it is believed to have many health benefits as chemicals can lead to irritation and allergies and so on.

Organic cotton is the most amazing fabric to use in an organic baby blanket, so it will be soft and smooth on a baby's skin. On top of this, organic cotton as a type of material for blankets is preferable than cheaper alternatives such as polyester, as it is more absorbent than other types of materials. A benefit of it being absorbent is that it will prevent your baby from overheating or sweating, which is super important as a baby’s skin is so sensitive.

On top of this, organic cotton is also really soft. This is good for two reasons. Firstly, this means that it's perfect for cuddling your baby in the early years. In a similar way, it also means that your baby will be as comfortable as can be and so won't irritate your child's sensitive skin. Polyester can be scratchy and therefore uncomfortable making cotton far more preferable.

In addition to being soft, these types of blankets should be durable. Often, a baby can chew on a blanket and when they’re grown up a child will drag the blanket around with them and hold it all the time. Therefore, parents should look for a blanket that's well-knitted. A solid cotton cable knit blanket will last for years and not get torn due to the quality that goes into making it. So, a good organic blanket should be a good choice for your child as it should also last for several years.

Where can you find such blankets?

If all of these benefits sound good to you and you’ve decided to invest in one of these blankets as a result then you will want to know where you can find these blankets for yourself. Well, you have two options for this, online and in store. But we recommend going into shops or visiting your local shopping centre. Here you can visit shops that specialise in such items or general shops that may stock them. Shopping in person means that you have the benefit of trying before you buy. You will be able to have a feel of the material to see if it’s soft enough for your liking.
