There is something gravitating about workaholics.

You can sense the shift in space and time around them if you are observant enough.

Today I was fascinated by someone who despite needing some time off still ended up working, probably without even realising.

So, I have finally penned down the long pending, swirling thoughts and the only word I felt best describes a workaholic is – A graph.

And then it became apparent, everyone CANbe a workaholic and for the right type of work. You cannot expect a swimmer to become a diligent librarian or a dedicated teacher to become an obsessed coder.

But there ISa possibility and I want to think out loud how.

Workaholics are driven by the awareness – of past, present and future. They are motivated by the incidents – Imaginable and unimaginable. They plot themselves on the Event – time graph.

You will notice a lot repetition of three words as you read on.

1.Dopamine.

2.Efficient ego usage.

3.Motive.

1.

The reason why spending hours on internet despite the knowledge of its futility - Dopamine.

The reason why you tend to avoid a “mundane”, yet productive task - Less Dopamine.

Dopamine is the reward hormone.

Loved the way you felt rebelling during teenage? Dopamine more than adrenaline drove you.

Cannot forget the the first kiss? Dopamine.

Every cell has a start and end date imprinted in its code and the only thing driving it is feeling of purpose and at that microscopic level, it has to be a chemical reaction it loves.

As simple as that.

Our brains function the way we train them and once exposed to the reward hormone; it wants only more in whatever way possible.

Like for example:

You could force fixate a happy memory while sweeping the floor and if dopamine release is high enough, you automatically start to crave sweeping the floor no matter how ridiculous it may seem.

I guess it explains why certain people feel better doing dishes or gardening.

They have, intentionally or unintentionally repeatedly triggered their reward center so many times, brain craves that activity the moment it enters a low dopamine situation like sitting alone or taking rest.

This explains how an efficient workaholics, by superbly rewiring their brain, feel more rewarded by working than any other activity.

But is it really that easy to rewire your thoughts and neurons?

Read on.

2.

Most of world’s enigmas were at some point in their lives, sociopaths, and psychopaths. Every top leader has one thing in common and that is heightened self-realization. They are very aware about themselves, their own likes, dislikes, reactions, and triggers.

There is very less ambiguity, there is hardly any grey when it comes to white or black. Good or bad, the decision is swift.

As a person reaches the peak of self-realization, they come to accept that they all are driven by the exact persona they want the world to perceive them as.

Cool, friendly, fascinating, or intimidating.

I highly doubt there is anyone who, in true sense of the word, wants to be perceived as average. That person is either a closet prodigy or a complete idiot.

Agree or not, everyone wants to appear larger than life, seem better than peers, be perceived as one of the kinds because we have based our existence on the fact that we are unique when it comes to comprehending the world around.

A clever workaholic uses this vanity, this self-realization to trickthe brain into pushing the limits. The Brain is told that by doing so and so, the thing it wants the most is closer to reality.

3.

Why do we do what we do?

Money is a motive and so is the need to “feel” happy. Family is a motive and so are ambitions.

And everything and I repeat, everything is overridden when your motive becomes powerful enough.

Events, nature, abilities mean nothing when a motive is potent enough.

I CAN and WILL surpass Jeff Bezos when I find a motive strong enough master my mind, ignore the limitations and imprint in the very genetic code of every single cell of my body that I must beat something called Jeff Bezos.

We are, after all, living computers, an organic AI.

We are bunch of code put together into sentience and once reprogrammed keeping all the variables into consideration, every feature is possible.

I have come to realize we find ourselves as one entity, a unique being, which is true in a way considering the consciousness but world seems full of more possibilities when we acknowledge that we are trillions of beings that are waiting to drive our motive into reality because we cannot get reward alone.

A self aware workaholic is simply a motivated worker - Thank your stars if you are and if you are not, become one if you want to fulfill you existence of being "One of the kind".

So, the real question is, are your motives aligned with the work you do?

You are unstoppable if they are. You can wrestle a whale to ground and reach the highest summit with bare hands.

Thoughts?
