Although most people are familiar with the film Casablanca, few people are familiar with the'real' Casablanca, Morocco's largest city.

Casablanca, on Morocco's Atlantic coast, is the ideal image of a contemporary nation, as it is where young Moroccans travel to seek their fortunes, as well as where commercial and creative sectors thrive.

It may not have the same ambiance as the imperial cities of Marrakesh, Fez, Meknes, or Rabat, but it thrives in many other ways. So there you have it: our top ten Casablanca facts.

ONE OF THE LARGEST CITIES IN AFRICA

Casablanca, known as Morocco's "White City," has developed to become one of the continent's major cities, acting as the country's commercial and business hub, and its port is the largest in the north.

AFRICA'S LARGEST MOSQUE IS LOCATED HERE.

The Hassan II Mosque is Africa's largest and the world's sixth largest mosque. The mosque is built primarily above the Atlantic Ocean, with the seabed visible through the great wall's glass floor - one of Morocco's major tourist attractions.

IN THE CITY, A FOREST FROM THE TWENTIETH CENTURY

Morocco travel agency is the best choice to visit the forest apart from the Atlantic coast, the city's only natural feature is the Bouskoura forest, which was established in the twentieth century and is primarily made up of eucalyptus, palm, and pine trees.

PARK OF THE ARABIAN LEAGUE

The Arabian League Park is one of Casablanca's most prominent green spaces. The redevelopment of this wide open space is scheduled to begin in 2017. Tall palm trees, water features, a stadium, a skate park, and an underground parking garage can all be found in the refurbished park.

SIDI MERZOUGH AND THE SHRINE

A shrine to Sidi Merzoug - the Marabout of Sdi Merzouf - is located just outside of Nefta and is a major tourist attraction. Despite the fact that it is a burial ground rather than a traditional place of worship, many visitors come here in pursuit of physical healing, spiritual vision, or simply sightseeing. Because this is a sacred site, it must be treated with reverence.

BEACHES THAT HAVE BEEN SUNKISSED

Casablanca's beach is a tad gritty and surf-crazed, similar to Venice's. The Quicksilver Pro surf competition attracts surf pros from all around the world every September.

MEDINA'S OF HISTORY

Walking through the streets of the Old Medina reveals a site steeped in history: old city walls, forts, and tiny lanes have all stayed unchanged for thousands of years, making it a popular walking path between downtown Casablanca and the Hassan II Mosque.

RICK'S CAFE

is a restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Rick's Café, which recreates the set of the 1942 masterpiece Casablanca, is everything a film buff could want: a trip back in time to the 1040s, replete with the film's décor and music. The restaurant is divided into numerous levels, each with its own table sets and design.

CATHERINE OF CASABLANCA

The Casablanca Cathedral, which was constructed in the 1930s, is a work of art. During the French Catholic administration, the Cathedral was a prominent landmark in Casablanca, but following Morocco's independence in 1956, it lost its religious role and was abandoned. Since then, it has served as a school, a cultural center, and a venue for exhibits and fairs.

THE PALACE OF THE KING

Despite its restricted access, the King's Palace in Casablanca is believed to be an architectural masterpiece, surrounded by orange orchards and intricate water features. Desert Tours in Morocco.

Beautiful French Colonial architecture, large hotels, and European cafes fill the walkways in Casablanca, making it feel like a fashionable and sophisticated city. Restorations are taking place around the city, but the old walled Medina remains undisturbed.
