Fate

What is fate?
Is it the red string connecting us-
That no matter how far we get from each other
It'll eventually pull us together?

What is fate?
Is it the roads you and I take-
That at one point those paths will meet
Coalescing just as hearts in unison beat?

What is fate?
Is it the spark at first glance-
That even as you see a stranger before you
The unfathomable familiarity is not at all new?

But fate is-but less than-magic:
A mystery reliant upon humanly choices-
And turn upon turn in this labyrinth of life,
As we foolishly, relentlessly await what is to come,
Fate might have come way too early 
Leaving us unable to recognize it
Inevitably missing our one and only chance.

And so what is fate?
Maybe it's something you make-
That as you come across a heart so beautiful
This you will hold onto and protect with all your soul.
