Communication is the expression of opinions, ideas, facts, experiences, thoughts and feelings. What is it that makes it the easiest???? It is the "Language." Language is not just a medium of expression. In fact , it is an expression of living, a means to understand and connect to people and ourselves. Every language has it's own charm, essence and significance in the world ...Therefore, they need not to be compared to each other.
When it comes to a common language which brings the entire world together...it is none other than "English". It is a language that is prevalent in almost all the nations of the world and owes a great significance from the utilitarian point of view.
But the inappropriate aspect about "English" in our Society is that "IT" is used as a catalyst to create "Class Barriers" and is not used as a medium of communication. I guess, people treat it as a status symbol in our society. Seriously , what a marvelous depiction of a language!!! Somewhere..I guess, people have forgotten the basic task of a language. We got this language from "The English"( Britishers) and somewhere our society has been benefited by using it but it shouldn't be a means of demarcation. Our society needs to know, understand and learn this language in order to derive greater benefits from it and not just to make people (who don't know English) feel inferior. It shouldn't be a cause of the development of inferiority complex among people but should be a means of empowerment among people. It should actually serve as a means to understand and connect to people and ourselves and shouldn't be used as a means to create differences. It shouldn't be a means of treating the other languages/ the mother tongue subservient to it.
I guess , to a high extent in order to achieve this objective, the educational institutions can play a vital role.... especially schools because they serve as a gateway to society. Schools should admit children on the basis of their ability and competence to learn and not on the basis of the knowledge of "English" their parents have. In fact, it should be a language to which every child has to be acquainted for the progress of the society as a whole. Also, the other important trait which is to be inculcated in children should be...... Knowing, understanding and learning the other language doesn't make their mother tongue subservient. It is equally important to teach them and ourselves the significance of the mother tongue (It gives us our Identity).
I think another aspect which is more important is that people should know, understand and use any language in an appropriate way ( listen, speak, read and write) . This is how respect is given to any language. It is high time, people should consider the real role of the term "Language." It is not merely an eight letter term used only as a means of communication. It is a term which owes a deeper meaning and has multiple fruitful roles to play.
