"What are you staring at?", a sweet voice rang.
"Dunno. The sky.", equally depressed one replied.
"And what you find there?" Carefulness. Loaded in her every syllable.
"It's just stars. Clouds and stars. Moon. It's just so dark out here.", he replied.
"Yeah! It's gonna be dark only. It's midnight.", in a satirical manner, she answered.
"Satire suits you", he thought.
"Yes.", he replied, monotonously.
Silence prevailed. The night was harsh. The cold wind carried hope away with him, leaving behind a dense cloud of grief. Two souls laid and gazed the stars. The feminine one, had an aura. Aura of hope and it carried a charm. Mysterious, arousing one's curiosity, wherever it lingered, it left an impact. The male one, on contrary, sucked colours. Dull and depressing. Silently crying out for help. It probably needed a hand, one to grasp, hold tight, and never let go.
"Since when you started drugs?", she asked, while her voice shivered.
"The day I lost hope.", he sighed and replied.
"Why? Just why are you wasting your life away.", she stood up. And tears slowly rolled down her cheeks.
"Shut it up. I am literally tired now", he closed his eyes and pretended to ignore her.
Those words and she broke down. She wailed while he remained rooted. She sat down heavily. Her right hand caressed his hairs while the other rubbed her eyes. The boy didn't resist but was controlling his body. From falling apart.
After a while he spoke.
"Listen. Please stop. I can't get addicted to you. Once again. You will leave. Once again. I will break. Once again.", harshly he broke the silence.
"But I am there for you now", she tried her best to make him believe.
"People leave. So you will. Soon." he smirked.
She stood up. Trying hard not to cry, she slowly walked away.
"I am sorry." and she left.
Left alone, he broke down. Struck in a labyrinth, with no way out, anxiety crept in. The night was harsh. So was life. His hand reached the pocket and took out a cigarette. He lighted it up and inhaled a deep puff of smoke and slowly exhaled. Desperately beating his head, he tried to find hope. But again, life was harsh. He slowly stood up and headed towards the edge. With each step, memories crept, tears kept falling from those tired eyes.
A step forward.
Sobbing over a dead body. Becoming fatherless at a young age.
A step forward.
Hiding at a corner. Crying. Watching his drunk stepfather mercilessly thrashing his mother. Blood everywhere.
A step forward.
A lifeless body of his mother hanging from the ceiling.
A step forward.
Alone in bed. The belt marks at the back throbbed. Too afraid to call someone.
A step forward.
Being mocked at school for shabby appearance. For stuttering. For being skinny.
A step forward.
Satisfying hunger with water.
A step forward and he reached the edge. He slowly climbed the railing and observed the city beneath. It was sleeping soundly. Recovering from a tiring day, not a single human in sight. Darkness everywhere. He gracefully tossed the unfinished cigarette and watched it fall. He looked down and saw the cars parked on the road below. He closed his eyes and felt a gentle breeze on his face, soothing his mind. He painfully smiled and jumped.
"We need to break up. I am sorry I can't be with you. I will not be able to stick with you. I ... have just few weeks left to live.", the voice of the one he truly loved rang while the earth pulled him closer.
