Demon and the Brat.

Info

In my deep slumber, I could hear a distant knocking at my door. At first, I ignored it but gradually it became more irksome. Mumbling under my breath, I slowly got up and in a deep hoarse voice I asked, “Who’s there?”

“Please open the door”, and never ever in my existence I had heard a voice so tranquil yet for some unknown reason, it sent shivers down my spine. I slowly opened the door and saw a tall blonde man smiling at me. While his body appeared to have aged merely a couple of decades, however, his sparkling light brown eyes said that he was there since the beginning of time. He sensed me observing him and politely asked, “May I have a seat.”

I smirked and thought to myself that this will be quite interesting I’m bored since ages. I stepped aside and let him in. He passed me and I smelled fear in him. I giggled with joy as he looked uncomfortable yet I could sense the aura of confidence illuminating from him. He scanned my shabby cabin and sat at the only available chair, I don’t expect visitors, I’m the one usually visiting. The red brick walls were filled animal heads, the ones that I hunted when I was too bored of my existence. The room smelled of gin, my personal favorite. Even after all of this, the brat seemed to be unshaken but I could feel his pulse going up by a bit.

“Never mind me, what are you here for?”, I asked in a voice scary enough to make one think of the inevitable death. He smiled at me, which collapsed all the tension in the air. I was annoyed. Annoyed at this brat who dares to challenge me in my domain and he has the guts to look into my intimidating eyes and yet smile at me without any fear. I was confused. He had fear residing in his heart yet his eyes spoke a fearless tale. His existence was quite deceptive, as if it was an illusion that he created. He tricked me into thinking that I was the one in control but in actual he was the one pulling the strings. He had me and that smashed my pride. At the back of my head something told me to venture with care, this isn't going to be a piece of cake. I sat on the floor and waited for him to answer.

“I here on behalf of the humanity, we all need you”, he said in a gentle voice enough to shatter every single sin present around me. I raised my eyebrow at him questioning him what he meant by this. He continued, “Satan has misled you all, he defied the teachings of the Lord and he was jealous of him. Satan has tricked you all, has tricked the entire human race into suffering. We need you, humanity needs you and most importantly, God needs you.”

He waited for my response and I sighed. I spat at his feet and said, “Satan was never jealous of God. He is a clever manipulator, the one who calls himself the creator of this universe. He all has tricked you into believing that and you bunch of dimwits follow him. If your God is so perfect, why he acts like an arrogant all-knowing king telling you all to follow him, please him and do not defy him. Satan was the most perfect angel and when he dared to stood up and question the teachings your Lord, he banished him. The most important thing for Satan, for us, for humans is freedom and you need to understand the fact that submitting yourself to the Lord is taking the most important thing, your existence.”

He smiled again at me. That serene smile drove me to my madness and he sensed his superiority over me. “Satan and his followers have tricked the entire human race, since the beginning of human race. He was the one who tricked Adam and Eve into eating the forbidden fruit through which humanity was introduced to sin. Trust the Lord he wanted the well-being of everyone including Satan. He is all-forgiving, he’ll forgive all your sins. Just surrender yourself and accept the Lord’s grace. Satan was the one who manipulated people to indulge in sins, and you demons followed him. Sin has led humans to such dire consequences. Look at the nature, it’s weeping, the way it has been treated. Trust the Lord he will fix everything and make this earth a paradise if everyone believes in him and acts accordingly. Trust me the miserable life that the demons are living will be replaced a paradise.”

I sighed. “Stupid people. It’s not Satan, it’s your own God who has tricked you. Have you ever heard the perspective through which Satan thought? He was afraid of God having control of everything, he wanted people to have a taste of freedom, wanted people to explore without having any restrictions. God is an all controlling, manipulative bastard who has tricked every single person into believing he’s going to save us all. Rubbish! He has defined the terms of right and wrong. Why is that so? People enjoy pleasures and he says it’s a sin. He says he’s the one who’ll forgive. Why so? I don’t need validation of my existence from him. I’m a free soul and you or your God has no rights to defy the way I live. He’s selfish, wants the entire world to follow him, get this in your thick skull.”

He didn’t smile this time which made me curious. “How many demons have you met earlier?”, I asked sensing something inevitable.

“Plenty”, he gravely replied.

I stood up, trying to be intimidating, and asked, “How many of them has ceased existing as demon?”

“Plenty”, and he looked into my eyes and I could see the experience, the alertness, the fire it was hiding. He was deceptive, like his master, he tricked me into believing I am the one having fun but throughout it was him.

“You are too dangerous to be left alone to wander”, in the scariest of voice that I could.

“Same goes for you”, he said and he stood up.

At distance I could hear chants, probably exorcism. I laughed loudly for a while and then

whispered into his ear, “I am Satan’s demon for a reason kid.”
