"You are really here. It's surreal."
“What do you mean?” She sat up straight and asked me with that mixture of seriousness and mischief in her voice that only she could engineer. I hesitated and looked away. I could feel her eyes on me.

“You don’t know the storms that have waged in my mind all these years.” I blurted.

She was waiting for me to continue. I didn’t. I couldn’t.

Her eyes were neither searching for answers, nor were they pouring unfounded affection. Affection is easy. There was a touch of fear in her eyes. She knew that she was my whole world but still couldn’t heal me. And she cared enough to be scared.
