When I was five
Mom: Ye lo nanaji se baat karo. Here talk to your nanaji.
Me: Hello kaise hai aap? How are you?
Nanaji:Theek hai theek hai. Batao mera chand kya kar raha hai? I am fine, i am fine. So whats my moon doing?
Me: Bas khel rhe the. Just playing.
Nanaji: Acha batao birthday me kya gift loge? So what gift you want for your birthday?
Me:Ek remote controlled gadi aur ek cricket bat.One remote controlled car and one cricket bat.
Nanaji: Hahaha. Jaldi se aao idhar sab mile ga. Come to me fast, you will get everything.
When I was ten.
Nanaji: Arre dekho kaun aaya hai! Look who is here. Idhar aao mere bagal me batho. Come sit beside me. Batao kya khao ge? Tell what will you eat? Sab cheez ready hai. Everything is ready. Bas order do. Just order.
When I was thirteen.
Nanaji: Itna jaldi kyu ja rahe ho? Why are you going so fast? Jaldi vapas aana. Come back soon. Ye lo kuch paisa apne liye kuch kharid lena.Here take some money and buy yourself something.
When I was sixteen.
Nanaji:Arre itna acha marks laya hai boards me. Ek dum dil khush kar diya. Batao kya gift loge? You have scored so well in boards. I am so happy. Tell me what gift you want?
31st Dec 2018, he was admitted to hospital due to the recent deterioration of his health.
Two weeks back,
Nanaji: Tumhara par kaisa hai. How is your leg? Ab scooty nahi chaloge. Don't drive a scooty now.(Ignoring question that I asked about his health) Ruko kuch kha lo. Wait you eat something first.
A week back,
Nanaji:(In a weak voice) Babu hai? Kaisa ho? Is it you? How are you? Par kaisa hai. How is your leg?(After few minutes he fails to recognise me). Arre ye toh babu jaisa dikhta hai. Oh he looks like Aditya.
Yesterday,
Doctor: Now we can't do anything. It has been 12 hours since we have put him up on ventilator but his body isn't responding. So you got three options. If we remove the ventilator, he may die in the process of removing it or while you are shifting him home or after two three days. Second you all have tried for so long, keep him in ventilator for next 12 hours and see. Lastly we can just provide him with oxygen, but no needles. He is in pain. Lets not intensify it.
We opted for the second one.
5 O' Clock Today
The thing happened which I prayed last night not to.
Author's Note: In hindi language nana is a word used for one's maternal grandfather while ji is the term used to respect someone. Secondly this is just a sort of a gift to him. He also loved writing.
