A farmer was relaxing in his fields under the tree. He had just finished his bottle of beer. He was looking at the sky and the beauty of green fields which was looking amazing after the rains. In a relaxed posture, simple thoughts and eyes on nature beauty made him sleep.
He was in the midst of a dream enjoying with his girl friend, suddenly the voice of car honk disturbed his sweet dream. A well dressed man wearing Armani suit came out from his Jaguar and asked the farmer that who is the owner of these farms, I wish to meet him.
Farmer John who was already very upset with the voice of car honk which stopped him in the midst of his love scene , when he was just to kiss girl friend in his dreams. John half heartily replied to the stranger yes I am the owner and why the hell, you are asking for the owner. Stranger became very polite and introduced him self as Mathew, the sourcing director of a leading company. Mathew called his other team members from his car and requested John that can they sit and chat for some time.
John out of courtesy nodded yes.
They asked John that how much land he owns etc. John replied that his family owns around 750 acres of land and they are farming "Stevia"* in the whole land and are selling to a local contractor who takes all the production and gives them the down payment for the crops.
* Stevia is a composite herb whose leaves are the source of a noncaloric sweetener (Natural Insulin), good for diabetic patients.
Mathew became very excited and proudly said to his team see I told you that we can source Stevia directly and can cut the cost. His full team started convincing John to sell his whole crops to them for a better price. Mathew being over smart started inducing John.
Mathew: John look how much do you earn now?
John: What ever we earn me and my family are very much satisfied.
But Mathew was bent upon to convince John. He said look dear what ever you earn we can make it 25% extra by cutting the profit of the contractor. John said why should I look for avoiding contractor when he and earlier his father never gave us any problem to us and we are good friends and very comfortable with each other.
But how could Mathew waste his studies of Harvard he again started explaining. He said John see if you earn more you can buy more land of the adjoining fields.
John:
We are already holding enough land sufficient for entire family living. They do not want more land and moreover the next parcel of lands belong to his cousins. They all enjoy the family unions and do not want to to buy each other businesses.
Mathew:
You can buy new sedan , John replied his family is very much comfortable in the cars they own.
Mathew had one defined aim that in any case he has to buy the full Stevia from John. He said John with your increased profits you can put a factory yourself in the next years to sell Stevia in your own brands and can shift to Los Angels and open your own chain of stores and buy a big house in the Los Angels and live happily with the family.
John:
We are already living happily with family. Our's and cousins family all live like a single extended family. All have sam business but no competition, no grudge, never having bad eye on other's wealth and land.
Mathew again explained that you would be having good market reputation and will have good credit ratings. Based on which you can get huge loans/investments from Venture funds and banks, so in short you would be having a very satisfied life.
John was getting impatient as he had to go back to his afternoon nap and enjoy his dream with his girl friend, so wanted to end the discussions and told Mathew:
Okay for debate sake, I agree with you that we would be having great wealth and funds by agreeing to your proposal BUT can you please explain me what would I do after I attain more wealth and funds which I do not need.
Mathew got excited and thought that his tactic is working so very confidently explained after you would attain such a great wealth you can take retirement and buy a big Farm House out side city traffic, relax, live peacefully, contented and enjoy the noons with a glass of beer in hand and enjoy with your friends, family cousins.
John explained to Mathew:
If I go with your suggestions, first I will loose my child hood contractor friend by giving you the crops,
Then I loose my cousins by buying their land,
Then I leave my mother land to go to Los Angels,
Then I put extra pressure and loose my health and peace by taking loans.
As suggested by you and after I loose all health, relations, friends, youthful age, mother land how can I enjoy my retirement.
John further replied politely:
Mr. Mathew we people have budgeted & balanced our lives, we don't put extra pressure on our comforts for meeting synthetic desires.
Dear Mathew, after all this shit and pains if the ultimate aim is to feel relaxed with a glass of beer in hand and living happily with my family, friends in own farm house outside city traffic. This I am already doing right now in a good health and best of relations.
THEN WHY SHOULD I BOTHER FOR ALL THESE TRICS AND PAINS and ENTER IN TO A MAD RACE, WHICH WILL NOT ONLY TAKE MY HAPPINESS, HELATH AND RELATIONS AS WELL. WHEN I AM ALREADY ENJOYING THE LIFE THE WAY I WANT and CONTENTED IN WHAT EVER I HAVE.
