the bursted bubble

“I’m proposing you. I’m offering you a formal proposal.” There was a long unpleasant moment of silence. Time ceased as a bubble bursted. Although it was not realized at that time, the bubble had bursted with a loud sound. The world of shock came crashing down on her while the world of nervousness on him.

     Time and again, doing this crept up in his mind, but he was uncertain; uncertain of his own feelings, uncertain of her feelings, and finally uncertain of how to do it! Eventually, after analyzing a lot, he realized that yes, he certainly loved her. They have known each other for an incredible amount of time though they barely have spent some quality time. But for some reason, definitely other than the hormones, he loved talking to her. Staying in different cities miles apart did not affect anything. They were still good friends; the question then was “Could they ever be more than that?”

     Life brings some awesome opportunities in our sight. A series of events led him to her city. “This is it,” he thought. “I’ll meet with her, say how much I love her and that would be it!” He never was worried about a rejection. All efforts were made for a decent setting for the scene. Lack in courage was evident in their conversation. He just couldn’t come up with the topic. It was only when he learned that there were only fifteen minutes left with her, the curve of his courage, heart rate, nervousness, and much more versus time took an exponentially increasing turn. “I don’t know when I’ll be able to see her again; maybe it is the last time we are meeting; I’m going for it.” With these thoughts, he laid the groundwork and then…

“I’m proposing you. I’m offering you a formal proposal.”

She spoke with diminishing laugh, “Really?”

Fixedly gazing on her eyes, “Yes”

A really long pause…

“So, what’s your answer?”

“Please don’t make it awkward for me.”

     Up until that time he was determined to make her believe that he was a 143% serious. But, he now got determined to not make things awkward for her. They kept talking “just like good friends” about random stuff for some minutes before the time came to leave.

“Bye”

“Bye, just remember I’ll be waiting for you…”

     With time, he realized the intensity of the bursting bubble sound. It was deafening. He could have easily gone away to a more silent place or maybe changed his music playlist altogether, but there was one problem.

     I am still waiting for her…
