Cigarettes of Death

A flicker of spark and ashes fall

As your lips lean in close

Your two fingers toying with it

A wisp of smoke escapes from the end

Out it spirals like a snake in wait

Teasing you, tempting you

As you wrap your lips around the ‘Stick of Death’

Sealing your fate to this death bond

Head back, eyes closed

In goes death, out comes life

The air turns stale, you feel fresh

Euphoria maybe?

A fake life, a façade at best

Fading in and out of reality

Each drag pushing you to the cusp

Cling, cling on to dear life

Mesmerized thou are by the smoke stream

Gazing at the smoke rings dissolve into air

A poisonous mist, shimmering pale

Engulfing you within, and all that’s around

Ensnared by this smoke box

A prisoner of your own creation

A drag here, a smoke there

Becomes this constant pack in your hand

A beautiful irony

This self-orchestrated murder

A guilty pleasure every now and then

A deathly routine chaining you till the end

This road to hell lit up by stubs

As you puff away

To your pitiful end

In you go to the awaiting pyre

Clad you are in a sheath of white

The ashes that fell covering you now

A flick of the wrist, bright you burn

The cigarette ends and so do you.
