Connection of Lives

Info

Situations are not the same in life, sometimes we face difficulties and sometimes not. But everything is connected to one another, however it may look. Hospital is the one thing that brings every aspect of life. What so ever that milestone maybe, new life, cure or even death.

So it happened, 16 days ago, my grandmother fell prey to cold weather. She was admitted to the hospital, Dad and I rushed to see her. Since we were far away from each other, it took time for us to reach the hospital. As far as I remember she was unconscious and not the only one who got admitted on that day. We waited for reports to unveil the answers to our questions. People from different places were waiting on metallic benches. Nurses in various outfits were moving from one corner to other. We sat on one of the benches in corridor which has different sections connected to it, Canteen, Washroom, ICU, OB Ward, Nursing Station, Labour Room, Operation Theatre and Reception Hall. Our closest relatives had arrived before who admitted her into ICU. My Cousin who happens to live with her also came here.

Something new is always either scary or awkward. For me, it was scary. At night, corridor was nothing more than a hollow space in an apple after being eaten by worm. Like a leftover, only a few of attendant remain that night. Rainy weather and silence shrouded the hall. The Bulb in hall went on and off intermittently, leaving some horrific imagination in mind. On some instance, taking nap was mere a joke.

5:00 AM, sunlight is yet to rise from its slumber and I could see two dogs running around in hall. Surprising isn’t it but truth is there is a hostel for students with campus who are studying B Sc. Nursing Course in this hospital.

Our parents stood there as long as duty called them, it was now our responsibility to take charges in our hands. Cold weather and irregular rainfall made very challenging not only for us but our hope that she’ll make it safe n sound. Unstable condition and constant critical situation made us worry, thus draw the negative vibes upon us.

5 days later, she became stable yet her senses were not her own. During time we met with our relatives far away from us. Some, whom we never knew, never meet. This feeling of care and love is something which cannot be defined. We usually found Grandma sleeping but to our surprise she used to talk with nearby people. Our eagerness to talk always fails as she takes rest in her bed.

Deaths and birth were the two things I have seen so far now. Sorrow and happiness of people weren’t the only thing here. Patience, hope and faith were the feeling of every person here. It was our daily routine, visiting grandma, doctor’s report and providing medicine.

On 16th day she urged to talk with my cousin. It was first and the longest conversion during her stay in hospital. All she spoke of the past life, memories of old house near river, her work etc. We were delighted to hear that she is back to normal. Everyone paid a visit to her and spend a lot of time.

But destiny was something else for her, 19th day of her stay, she was engulfed to critical situation again but this was serious one that was beyond any help. Everyone tried very hard to keep their hopes but the struggle to live on was gone. On 22nd day around 8:30 AM she left us. Everyone gathered there to pay a last visit to her. Unlike others, every relative far or near came to see her, it was huge number. Priest also arrived for us and prayed for her soul.

During my stay I felt uncountable connections of feeling, emotion and relations. How far you go, you can’t run away. Sorrow and happiness are aspect of life without them your nothing but an empty shell. You can’t find that sheer feelings in world what I felt here.

You can’t feel those connections unless you become one. “Stand strong, you don’t know what lies ahead. Don’t be afraid, I’m here for you. Call me when you need me” Remember this you’ll never find yourself alone in this world. It’s the connection of life that unites us all.
