Across the green fields she’s running, oh my dear lady, afraid of those monsters, beasts with human appearance and machine guns. Vehicles were running slow, chasing that tormented woman. Bullets would surround her, touching her hair, damaging her clothes, threatening the existence.
They could have ended the whole damn thing in one second, but they decided to enjoy, to play the game of madness and despair, feeded by fear, these assassins functioned, oiling their gears with blood, tears and canned beans. On the other hand, she never gave up, despite having lost a shoe, the woman was keeping her run. One big blue sky colored the context, an enviable landscape reminded her past experiences flying above Florence in the Cicogna, a Hot Air Balloon given to her by Luca Camilo Baldini, her beloved stepfather. Winds and currents would guide her to destinations and far off places, lands where languages are not spoken. Seas and seas of dreams, endless illusions.
She ran, attached to the sins of this earth, not knowing what’s next. Step by step, time takes her to the near end, where all the wars are forgotten and all the murders are forgiven, meanwhile more shots are fired at her, but none of them would hit that fragile sculpture of a body, an act of luck or an act of masochism?
And ran and ran, until exhaustion touched the surface of her lungs. So she stopped. The monsters looked at her with pity and guilt, the most evil of them knew those faces and raised his hand, the other ones lowered their guns. The beast pulled out the pistol and pointed at the head of the woman.
The Cicogna was a great gift by a great man, but not the best of them. Mr. Luca Baldini was a person who did a lot of secret journeys, he was attracted to the weird and strange, everybody used to describe him as an extremely curious human. So when he found this gem, he made a necklace with it.
On an expedition in the late 1890s, he and a number of other explorers were trapped in a catacomb in Northern Sudan looking for the Jewels of Amun. This legion of intriguing people believed that in one time, these artifacts were used by King Piye to successfully invade Egypt, but only one of them was described in detail by a hieroglyph, the Stone of Nubia, a green colored gemstone capable of doing some mysterious and seemingly magic things to the one who carries it.
Once they accomplished to escape the caves, everyone in the cult believed that the goal was unachievable, that those strange objects never existed and blamed Sir. John Walden -Former Leader- for what they called “a nonsense vacation to the lion’s den”.
Hidden in silence, Mr. Baldini lies in mystery for the next decades, people were used to it, nobody noticed. So, one ordinary day he decided to show something to his little stepdaughter. They traveled miles and miles, roads that led to no place, dark forests, long rivers and rough mountains to get where he was hiding the five Jewels of Amun, stones that he cleverly kept unseen all this time.
When she was running, the necklace with the green jewel was inside her pocket and when the beast fired his gun, the bullet, expelled like a spittle, crossed the thin air reaching the speed of sound, heated like a million suns. Then, she flew, released to the strings of the wind, the currents that once guided her to oceans and outer worlds, touching epochs with the memory.
Grabbing the gemstone, she disappeared.
The armed men puzzled by such a feat, left the scene with a lot of questions plus no corpse to bring. And invisible to light, she kept running, addressing the place that only two people knew; and that hides treasures so magical, yet difficult to comprehend.
