Father, when the flower in my core
Finds the bee that it adores
Will you open the fence that encloses me?
Or will you guard and not let him be?
Father, be at ease for you taught me well
Love—only time will tell
I will be sure to find a man like you
Ever so caring, wise and true
Father, whenever you picture me to be hurt
Rest your worries for I know my worth
You trained me to be independent
To value respect and consent
Father, if you find yourself rummaging through the 'what ifs'
Do not fret for I have a shelf of tricks
I may never get ahold of life
But, I do know when to strike
Rest your tired mind and weary heart
For you have already done your part
I am forever going to be your comrade
Father, you can now let go of my hand
It didn't care that it was surrounded by darkness for it was ever so proud of its light
