Hope

Simple as the word may sound, "hope" is indeed a magical word. However, it is usually taken so lightly, and for pessimists, it only causes false belief.

Speaking from experience, hope has failed me many times already. It made me look forward to wonderful outcomes, but most often than not, the ending would turn out to be the opposite. Receiving failure after putting in so much effort and energy by becoming hopeful only doubled-or maybe tripled-the negative blow and disappointment. After a few more failed attempts to hoping for good outcomes, I decided not to hope for anything anymore. It made things easier- or at least that's how I used to see it.

My life of continuously killing hope came to a halt when I realized that losing hope couldn't completely remove the possibility of disheartenment. Losing any sort of hope within me only made disppointments come in advance, even before actually seeing or knowing the results. It is not hope that doubles the impact of failure, but "expectations". It was only recently that I saw the difference between the two words. Expecting is claiming and declaring that something is going to happen, whereas hope simply encourages one to see the possibility for something to happen. This encouragement, which hope provides, is powerful to make possible whatever is seemingly impossible. Hope is the divine hand that reaches out and helps one to get up whenever it feels difficult to stand after the fall. Hope is the voice that says "anything can happen".

Let us not lose hope even before hope ends. Hope only loses its fight when the outcome has been revealed, but until then, hope will be there to light up the path, to motivate one to see things to the end with a brave heart. Without expecting anything, it is possible to keep on hoping.

Therefore, in all of life's complexity and unfair nature, let us continue against all odds to keep "hope" alive within our hearts. Afterall, it is this which keeps us moving forward- the hope that everything will be alright, and that we will all close our own life's book with the popular note "happy ever after".
