It has been Eight years that Piu and Avik has crossed the borders of friendship and were lovers.They had met in the University Cultural function on the occasion of Tagore's birthday.Avik had a gifted voice and Piu's heart accelerated the time she heard Avik singing a soulful love song which happened to be her favorite too.The long period of courtship resulted to conjugal union much to the disagreement of both the families.Pihu's parents weren't sure of Avik's financial status to sustain their daughter while Avik's uncle being an astrologer predicted that the marriage wouldn't even last a year.But both of them fought for love and United.
Standing near the bus stop to board respective buses all of this seemed to be stories of a different Universe.They had just signed the mutual divorce papers in the court and were heading to their respective homes.Financial constraints and misunderstandings led to the beautiful bond to end up within 1 year 2 months.Pihu didn't want to look at Avik and Avik waited to board a taxi soon to head home.
The hot month of May seemed to be cruel for them as they waited to go home away from each other.So many bitter memories came running to them- the occasional fights,ego problems, financial instability, misunderstandings and even mistrust.Avik wondered if he knew Piu at all,the same girl he dated for the last 8 years seemed to be a stranger and as for Piu she felt Avik was nothing but a rash immature man.Things like this kept crossing their mind.Avik saw a shade and stood there and he saw Piu following him.
An old man in tattered clothes came begging to them,what surprised them was that he said-"My wife hasn't eaten anything since yesterday ,I can fight hunger,she can't.' Piu immediately told Avik to get him some bananas and bread across the road and Avik came back smiling.The old man sat down next to his wife feeding her with his shaking hands and the old wife wiped off the sweat from her husband's face.The old couple called both of them and offered them food but before Piu could deny,Avik said-"Feed my wife,I know she hasn't taken her meal,I can fight hunger she can't.' Piu looked up at Avik,in all these months this was the first time she heard something nice from Avik and couldn't control her tears.
The old man said -'Such is the bond of Husband and Wife,no matter how hard things get, you don't give up on each other easily.' The old woman blessed Avik and Piu that may their bond flourish and strengthen with each passing day.Avik and Piu were blank.Both of them had completely forgotten about their divorce for the time being and while walking back to the bus stop the loudspeaker nearby chanted the lines-'I would like to utter those words once again to you, the words that I have articulated more than a few times.The lyrics that echo within me amidst the downpour." It was the same song of Tagore that Avik sang and Piu gave her heart away.
The bus came and Piu got up but just then Avik held her hand and whispered -'Lets give it a try,will you marry me?'Piu's tears answered his question and they realized that sometimes Love has to be fought for...
