A Life lesson

I came across a phrase yesterday which had a powerful message that touched me deeply. I thought of sharing this with my friends.

“Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It has only one thought in its mind. To be able to run faster than the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa a lion wakes up. It has only one thought in its mind. To be able to run faster than the slowest gazelle or else it will starve to death. Whether you choose to be a lion or gazelle is of no consequence. It is enough to know that with the rising of the sun you must run and you must run faster than how you did yesterday”

Everyone says Life is a race. Let’s face it but in a way that you don’t have to push anybody down to be able to succeed in life. Instead we can concentrate on bettering ourself every day to be able to prosper and succeed in life. Each individual has his/her own unique talents. When you believe in your own skills and work on improving those you will be able to reach your goal.

For eg, in this case, lion in fact is aware that he may not be able to run as fast as a gazelle but he is confident that he is stronger in his physical power than a gazelle. On the other hand, gazelle is aware that he is not as mighty as lion but at the same time he is confident that he can run faster than a lion which is his gifted skill. So each one of us have got our own strengths and weaknesses. Ability of an individual is in identifying his/her hidden talents and improvising them.

If you are a runner and you run 100 m race in 16s, you should work next time on running 100 m race in 8 s to be able to win. You are ultimately competing with your own self to be a better runner though it appears like you are competing with others who are running besides you.

It is not about jealousy, it is not about cut throating others, it is not about ego . It is about self realisation and self belief – Respecting yourself by respecting others and learning from others
