A knock at my door by an unexpected guest!!

It was a usual day and I was hurrying to get ready for office, (since I am a late riser) double checking if I have taken everything for office when I heard a knock at my door. Life style here is quite different and it was quite an unusual thing for someone to get inside the flat and knock at the door. If it was your friend he/she would have given a ring at the entrance to the flat. Also you would hardly know who is staying in the nearby units (since everyone is busy with their own lives) that there is no chance that it would be someone next door who is knocking the door. So I assumed it would be just a feeling within me and I ignored it first. But when I heard the knock a second time, I felt that somebody is really there and wanted to try opening the door slowly to see the unexpected guest.

When I opened,  I initially couldn't see anyone but then I saw a very small cute girl. She was very pretty and she had a plastic nipple baby toy in her mouth that I could hardly hear what she was saying. I kneeled down to reach her level to hear what she wanted to tell me and at the same time curious to know why she came to me. I saw her lovely face with watered eyes and could hear her speaking "I can't find my mama". She looked at me as a person who came to her rescue and held my hands with her soft small palm that I felt responsible and wanted to help her.

She was too small to ask too many questions. But I asked her in a very affectionate way, "you know where mama has gone? " She just showed an expression and conveyed to me that she has no idea. I asked her "which is ur unit?". She showed me her unit then. I realized that she lives in the unit next door and I have seen her mama few times from a distance though I don't know her much in person. The unit door was opened. She took me in front of her unit. I asked her if she checked properly inside the house. She nodded her head and she alone went inside the unit again and I saw her checking inside each room to confirm her mother is there or not. She then came running back to me and held my hands again. This time her hope went down that her eyes started watering again. I then hugged the angel and gave her a sweet kiss and told her "dont worry. mama will come now. "

Now I was left with no other option but to check inside the unit myself to ensure her mother is there or not. Since it is not a good act to get into another person's unit without their permission I just thought of checking with Anup my husband on what can be done now. Anup was taking a shower when this entire incident has happened. Once he was done and ready, I explained him the background. He tried asking her if she has her mama's phone number. She conveyed to us with her expression that she don't have. Finally I told Anup, I will get inside the unit and see but he can wait outside. He asked me to go ahead but to be careful since I was entering into a stranger house. I just carefully entered the house calling out "Excuse Me" aloud in case someone is there. I just had a look into each room but then I realized what the kid said was true and noone was inside.

My time for going to office has crossed. I thought I will login from home then but I can't leave this kid alone in the empty house and go. My heart didn't allow that. I almost made up my mind that I will take her to my unit and console her and at the same time try to get the details of the unit owner to inform about this incident when I heard Anup speaking to someone. I thought he would be speaking to someone on phone initially but then I heard the voice of a lady. Yes it was her mother finally.

Anup explained to her the incident and informed her that I just went in finally since I had no other choice. She told us that she wanted to drop her other kid to school and this little one was sleeping when she left. She didn't know that the little girl would wake up and manage to open the door to go out since the kid has never done that before. She thanked us for being with her kid and also told us that in case the kid knocked our door and noone had opened the door there could be a next chance that the kid would open the flat door and go directly to the road which would have been very dangerous. We also felt happy that we could do something good for someone and started for office.

When we came back in the evening after work, the mother saw us from upstairs and when we came up, she opened her door just to meet us and thanked us again saying "It would be a small act, but for her and her kid it means great"
