Most people who step in the world of filmmaking aspire to have great success. There are many names in the industry who lead with powerful reputations and remain lasting examples for everyone today. To be a great professional, one has to specialize in certain areas which make up a real difference in one’s work. The fundamentals and basics of film production are always stressed in film school, but there are also those aspects which they cannot teach you.
These aspects have been a major part of the work ethic of brilliant producers like Conrad William Denke. The founder of Victory Studios who has made many award-winning documentaries is one of the biggest names in Hollywood. Conrad as an entrepreneur, writer, producer, and director of feature films, TV shows, documentaries and editor of “High Def Magazine” is a well-respected name in the industry. He is prominently known for “More Than Bows and Arrows,” “National Desk” and “Mr. Warmth, The Don Rickles Project” in terms of his work. The filmmaker has also worked with corporations like Philips, Disney Studios, Universal Studios, Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks. His 40 years in the industry has won him a great number of awards and honors including national and regional Emmys.
So, what is it about the work of producers like Conrad Denke which remains a key determinant of their success? Here are four areas Denke emphasizes for success:
Story – It seems quite understandable that there cannot be a production if it has no story. Yet, many filmmakers stress about a vast array of aesthetics in terms of production quality, technology, and design. These areas only have a limited impact on the whole production because the only thing which reveals the backbone of every production is the “story.” Stories that win the hearts of an audience and at the same time garner deep influence work independently from any other sort of reinforcement to entertain, to motivate and inspire.
Building characters – Characters are a vital part of any story and they should directly exude the emotional aspects of the film. A story is built upon a certain set of principles, morals, values, facts, ideologies, philosophies, etc., and the real difference is made when the characters are real-life manifestations of these. And every production needs top talent to make these characters come to life.
Vision – Every production needs a strong vision, one that is independent of personal gain. Producers need to aim for the bigger picture and the core aspect of their story which will then make a greater difference in the lives of the viewers. If the vision is strong, all other elements of a production will come together more easily to support a successful outcome.
Selling the production – It is popularly said that making a film is hard and selling a film is even harder. Producers need to understand the contemporary marketing strategies which are required to brand a production on all outlets. There are a set of marketing principles and strategies which are compatible with promoting films, and producers needs to be skilled with them. It starts from teasers, trailers, social networking, press tours and releases, to blooper reels, “behind-the-scenes” shorts, etc. A producer should know how to play on all of these platforms with ease.
