Those monsters that you try to run away from,
Are still there-
They’re right there-
Hiding in the darkness
Under your bed.
They stay quiet all day,
Seemingly dead,
And you wonder how easy it is
To be rid of those abominations-
All is well-
But,
At the darkest hour of the night,
After you’ve retired from the day’s activities,
And have settled in your pillows and blanket,
The hollowness comes back-
Starting from your core,
Swallowing you whole,
And that’s when you know
That the monsters have risen,
Quietly lurking in the dark,
Waiting to devour your spirits,
Waiting to drag you to the pit of the abyss.
And just like that-
Just like every night-
The nightmare
Begins.
