Dream Big (A Movie Reflection)

Info

"I am reflecting to one of my favorite animated movies."

Turbo Movie, is a film that inspired me most.

It illustrates how a great and happy life can be achieved once you make a dream for yourself and go for it. Also, the hindrances along the way: maybe one’s own family, proficiency, external threats, money, fears and so on. But all these, for a dreamer with solid willpower, can never be glitches if he believes in himself and that God could yield miracles in the most impossible way.

I, for one, have many dreams ever since I was a little girl. I loved drawing and painting so much and so, I wanted to be an artist. Then, I became interested with fashion and still connected with arts, I wanted to be a fashion designer. I admire manga and anime famous in Japan so I wanted to work as a manga artist and an animator. Soon, I found love in writing poems or anything when I had my heart broken from falling in "you-know-what" and made myself a writer. When I was invited every day to play with my cousin who has a lot of encyclopedias regarding the universe, I dreaded to become an astronaut and finalized this dream by telling my parents to enroll me in a good university with astronomy or aerospace course. I loved the space, stars and moon, everything! Along their histories. I got so in love that I thought it was a perfect match between me and my dream, to be an astronaut. My mind was already made up! And every day, I would imagine myself travelling in space. It was a feeling in cloud nine.

But at the last minute, everything changed.

I heard that astronomy is only offered in a very high university here in my country thus, my science grades should be high. Meanwhile, aeronautics or aerospace is an expensive course to be into. And my family only came from humble beginnings so, I cannot afford and my grade cannot reach the quota.

How do I say this? I cried. Yes, really hard.

Nonetheless for a dreamer, nothing is impossible. I was often asked in-between talks, “What will you do if you’ll die tomorrow?” Like Turbo’s answer, I would reply, “Better make the most of today.” And another goes from the net: “Dream as if you’ll die tomorrow. Live as if you’ll die today.” This is a meaningful quote that touched my very soul and that took me from my sorrow.

Until then, I met Tourism. The first word that comes into my mind when I hear this is "travel." And when you’re an astronaut, it’s all about travelling in space. In short, astronomy and tourism fields have something in common and that is to travel. To have the freedom to go on different places, have fun, explore, adventure and excitement. Things that I ever so wanted! And then again, I jumped for joy. And over again, I was living in cloud nine.

But my dad and my mom disagreed again, they don’t want me to be a tour guide working abroad, to be specific, in Europe or Africa. They don’t like it and the fact that I wanted to be in my dream school, they hated my dream more. And so I bargained,

“Okay then! I won’t attend that university BUT in exchange, help me be part of the tourism ground.”

They remained quiet for the longest time and said okay with stern looks. I, who wanted full support from my parents, did not push them that day anymore.

For I have already seen the end of it.

I just thought, hmm, it’s not a bad start to get them to believe in me. As for Turbo, he was surrounded with neighbors laughing at him and a brother who does not believe in him at first. Turbo and I only wish that our love ones could believe in us by doing our best more. And we applied Guy Gagne’s word in the movie saying,

“No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small.”

This made me and Turbo stronger and faithful towards our dream. My dad also said to me before when I was hurting in love, “Strong determination!” And so, I would also apply it in this dream. No matter how much my dad disapproves of what I want to do in life, I’d keep moving on. Because my dream shaped my path in life. In this society, it’s difficult to have none. My dream taught me hope, happiness and marvels. It certainly is giving me something to look forward to: an inspiration and an undying love.

I know, I have a reason why I was born and a reason why God allowed me to dream this big. God wants me to believe in Him as I believe in myself and through Him, once more, nothing is impossible.

The Turbo Movie is a complete reflection of my condition in life. The struggles Turbo and I are going through as well as the passion in lieu of our dreams. My motto in life has always been, “Never settle for less.” I believe there’s something more one could give in a simple thing. With just careful thought and passionate heart, amazing ideas and competencies would always overflow in you.

"By no means you’re staying in your shell, come out! Stay out of your comfort zone and experience new things. Not be afraid of mistakes and losses because these only weigh your abilities and tell you what you lack, what to change and do more. Who knows, you’d find more happiness in new stuffs you never expected before."

“Take a chance and risk it all or play safe and suffer defeat.”
