Singles are made in heaven

I know one dog who is single. No I'm not calling him a dog, but I prefer to address this street dog whom I'm talking about as a 'him' and not 'it'.

He's a handsome dog, a dog from the hills. His back is of black colour but his face is golden brown just like his under body and legs. His tail is bushy, again with black spine and brown bushy fur, like a fox's. He was first spotted by me in 2014 ,or 2013, I'm not sure. But somewhere in the ending of 2013 and the beginning of 2014. I would sit in my balcony enjoying, or binging on creamy coffee, when I would see him wagging his tail at the stationer's shop, hoping that the shopkeeper would give him something to eat. And sure enough, the shopkeeper was a regular contributor to his daily diet.

All I can say is that I have never seen a dog quite as sorted as him. He does not get involved in fights and gang wars and still he has maintained his territory. He has the most peaceful demeanor. Looking at him, sitting contented with life, hanging his tongue in satisfaction, you have to admit you live amongst gentlemen.

It is quite evident from his style of trotting, he is free from the pangs of love and longing. He is not depressed for one thing. And he is always ready in combat, prepared to flee from his enemies when he is attacked, taking shelter in one of his safest shops to hide - the grocerer's. He is prepared to pay for his survival, and he does it without any complaints. He looks after the shops, and when he is there, the keepers sometimes take their respites. He does not have any friends but gets along with his fellow mates quite decently when they stop passing by. He doesn't crave friendship, neither love. But he is the most compassionate being that I have seen. Compassion he has displayed, towards everyone who comes in contact with him. He does not have anything to give, or any help to offer, but he greets them with understanding that is reflected in the patience in his eyes. He is patient. Towards everything that life has to offer him. And if something is threatening, he just flees to safety.

I hope he is never touched by love. And though I don't know about his past, I guess he is a loner from the beginning. They are the masters of their lives. They have made amends with nature and their fellow beings. They are made to be single. They are meant to be single. The message he gives out to the world is that, as long as you have enough to survive, you are better off without complaints and love. Perhaps they are not made to detect love in their vicinity. Perhaps they have never given it much thought. Ever. Perhaps they never will. But still, they are as lovely to a love struck being like me, as a childhood friend can be.
