"We're not meant to be together. I love adventure, I'd love spending my day outdoors while you'd love to snuggle and read a nice book while having your coffee. I'm vegetarian and you'll never be able to share your love for chicken with me. I know you've never had many family holidays and never known it's true importance but my family means a lot to me. You're literally gonna be a rocket scientist and I may give up my career for our kids. I'm a big romantic while you enjoy your sci-fi movies. So we're more different than alike. We may promise today to be together in sickness and in health, but will we be able to hold these vows at a greater position than our egos when the time comes? See we can't choose who we fall in love with, but we can choose who we want to spend the rest of our lives with. So, will you want to spend the rest of your life with me even when this love makes swallowing hard and takes the life out of you? Will you have the courage to look into my eyes and find love there even when you hate me the most?"
She looked boldly into the eyes of her to-be husband standing opposite to her on the altar.
He was silent. He knew she was a little rain, but never quite knew when she could turn into a hurricane.
Her gaze softened as she tried to figure out what the eyes of the man she had loved were saying.
He let out a sigh, looked up into the sky and then directly at her, "Wow, those are some great vows." He chuckled.
'Never fails to amuse me' She thought as she smiled, 'but what is he going to say?'
The people gathered there were all gazing at the two lovers holding their breaths. It was all very dramatic and film-like. The bride's parents' were the only ones smiling. Why, you ask? Well, let's see.
The groom knew he was holding the gaze of 60 people, so without further ado, he held his bride's hands and said, "Listen, I know I should sound all romantic and great right now, but I'll tell you the truth. See, I know we have our differences and we may not be the perfect match but let me tell you something. The thing about being in love is, it's not selfish. You love a person despite all the differences and you love them as you watch them grow and be independent even though that is not how you pictured your life to be. I will admit that I may not be able to love you just the same all the time, but at the same time I promise that I will always look into your eyes and remember this day and somehow find a way to love you again, because I know for certain that it is you whose arms I want to be in when I'm 85 and little bitter about life."
'Always been quite the grand speaker' she thought, as she looked at her parents smiling.
He had passed the test.
