Swish splash! Have you ever seen waves crashing through huge rocks and then creating a magnificent rain of sea water? Others find it amusing while others see it as an overwhelming tidal surge. It's all about perspective and for me I see it as a current picture of our generation colliding with the older generation. Yikes!
Waves are naturally flowing because that's how nature created them to be but there are some things that simply doesn't flow or move, an example would be a rock. Like the waves, we as the younger generation tends to move around and explore places we've never been. We are simply thirsty for knowledge and experience just like every adult when they were in our age. The only difference is how time upgraded everything and made it so accessible. The power of technology as what others call it. I believe that innovation made us an instant "Albert Einstein" in the eyes of the elders. And this is where the rocks came in and all the colliding and crashing begins.
Education is the key to a better future as what everyone believes in. The older generation implemented that we each go to school and receive a degree. It's ironic because the education that they believe are their excuse why we are acting rebellious and hardheaded. Becoming information literate somehow offend parents, elders and even the teachers. Their generation is not a rock but nevertheless it is their tradition. When we don't do things according to their practice, either we receive a beating or a comparative speech about how it works during their time.
One time my father bought a massive size dictionary because he thinks that it's essential for me to carry it around in school. He was proud that I have this privilege because he doesn't have dictionary during his childhood and he has to go to his neighbor or the public library to use one. I love my father but I don't think that carrying a heavy block would help me graduate fast but instead give me an osteoporosis in the spine soon. My father was disappointed because I defied his want for a Merriam-Webster App and I felt guilty about it but i thought about the osteoporosis so Im sticking with the app. My father and I talked about the issue and it's great that he understands but from time to time he still asks me if I'm using the colossal dictionary.
Sometimes like the waves, things could get pretty violent. When conversations doesn't go well, there's bound to be a storm coming. Like every mother in the world, they feed, care, love and discipline children. Part of the discipline program is to spank, scold and shout when we're not not behaving well. People believe that it's done out of love because thats what the old generation perceives it. For me, it's done out of anger issues and out of control emotions. That's why I try to reason with my mother because I felt that I don't deserved to be treated like an insignificant child. Society calls it disrespectful but what I do know is that it's just an act of defense. Because back in school we are taught to analyze, understand and express what we feel. Unfortunately the norm condemn children who talks back. Yes both sides have a stand but both sides needs to be heard.
It's time for tradition to adapt to change. Because the world is revolving every second and so must people revolve with it. I know how overwhelming the waves of change can be but through time we'll realize that rocks may be hard as it looks like but it still weathers like all the gift of nature. No matter how much change it went through and how different the rock's size and shape is, in the end it's still what it is.
