The Cord of Love

"Sorry we couldn't save her"
These were the words that shook Dev up,all this while he had gone through a bumpy ride full of anxiety, curiosity, irritation, restlessness.But these words just made him numb.He wanted to scream and cry out loud but his mind told him to control his emotions.He knew he had to face this,more a warrior than a struggler.

All his life he had been a carefree soul,whose life revolved around friends,parties and trips,but life teaches us to be responsible.Two years back,when he saw his father battling for life,he realized that life was more than parties and growing up demands duties.He settled down and was blessed to have one of the most understanding girls as his life partner.Often he wondered if only he had married his love but destiny had other plans.

Varsha was a sweet natured dutiful and loyal life partner.Her world revolved around Dev.Dev would sometimes feel jealous of his bachelor friends when they went on trips and often he advised them not to settle down so fast.He would somehow feel burdened after marrying Varsha,though she never asked anything from Dev.Dev thought he had so much to do rather than marrying early.

When Dev passed by the hospital beds,all he wanted was to see Varsha.He went through a whirlpool of emotions and he felt lost and heavy.He blamed himself for all the times when he chided her,ignored her smallest desires, neglected to hear her out.Dev felt guilty.
He walked near the bed where Varsha lay,calm and peaceful.
Dev went near her,held her hand and kissed her on her forehead and Varsha's cheeks felt Dev's tears.
Dev hugged her and said-" Sorry for not taking care of you, Sorry for everything I have done,Will you forgive me?"
Varsha struggled hard to smile and said-" We lost our first child,but we won each other.We won't walk away from here empty handed.We have each other.Lets hold on to that."

Dev hugged her tightly and recalled all those things he had said in anger, frustration, irritation, disgust to Varsha but he realized that in the past few months how important a place she has occupied and he promised to himself to be a Good Partner before embarking on to the journey of Parenthood.
