It was a cold chilly evening.Except for the sound of the train moving through the woods in it's fast pace and the occasional horn of it,there was a silence engulfing the whole of the environment.Reyan took out his diary and checked all the meetings that were lined up for him to attend.He wanted to call up Sara to check on her but his phone's network kept playing hide and seek with him.He had dropped her at least 20 messages and she hadn't answered one of them .Reyan knew how to pacify his angry wife,he had already packed a beautiful handbag from the local market and was sure that she would love it.
Sara had planned for an outing with Reyan but due to Reyan' s last minute meeting, had to cancel the plan.Before leaving when Reyan kissed Sara on her forehead,he saw the watery eyes of Sara and promised to make it up to her.Reyan was frequently out of the town for his business meetings and since he gave up his settled job for this start up,he knew these years were crucial for him.He knew Sara supported him always but deep down he knew Sara missed him and longed for his company.He tried his best to be there for her.Reyan knew how Sara defended everyone including Reyan's parents when they heard about Reyan quitting his job for a start up.But Sara held his hand always.
Happiness knocked on their door last month when Sara's pregnancy test showed positive results.Reyan felt like the happiest man in the world and since then he knew he had another life to take care of.Sara used to go out sometimes to meet her cousin Miesha and spent the night there if Reyan was out of town.Reyan dropped her this time too to Miesha's house and breathed a sigh of relief that there was someone to take care of her now.
Reyan wanted to surprise Sara and didn't tell her that he managed to wind up his meeting a day before.He wanted to see the happiness in Sara's eyes and thought at least now Sara would not complain that Reyan changed as a husband and was a better boyfriend.Reyan also had booked tickets for Munnar the next week in order to spend some time with her and make her feel special and Happy.Suddenly with the train halting in a lonely station,his thoughts too halted.
He looked out from the window and saw a few tea stalls and a few passengers.He asked the coolie that which station was it.He replied that the train stopped by to receive the signal of clearance.Reyan decided to step out and get some fresh air and a cup of tea in the cold chilly winter evening.He ordered a cup of tea and a few biscuits and in the meantime called up Sara again and again but got no response from her.He called up Miesha and asked her about Sara and Miesha answered that Sara had left her home in the morning as she had some plans for Reyan.Reyan smiled and felt that somethings never change.He wondered that what kind of telepathic connection they both had.He remembered how once in the college they both bought the same movie tickets for one another and ended up watching the movie twice back to back.
He sipped his tea and asked the vendor that how long will it take for the train to leave.The middle aged friendly man replied that it would take some time as there was some construction work in the other track,all the trains used that particular track.Reyan also got to know that except for a few trains the station was mostly forgotten.He paid the Money and just when he was ready to go back to his coach he saw Sara standing right in front of him.At first he couldn't believe and before he could say a word,Sara said-"Surprise".Reyan asked -" But how did you get here?Why were you not answering my calls?"Sara kept smiling and said-"I know I complain a lot about you being a boring man but I know how much you love me and I was Missing you,so see I am here."
Reyan told her that he wanted to surprise her and that's why didn't tell her anything about his arrival.Sara smiled and said that she knew about the Munnar trip too, mistakenly Reyan had forgotten to delete his browsing history from the laptop.Reyan smiled and they both laughed out loud.Sara asked him about his meeting and said-"Reyan don't give up on this.You know I have fought for you with everyone and you know I am already so proud of you.I might have been mad at you sometimes but I know I couldn't have asked for a better life partner."
Before Reyan could hold her hand and kiss her,Sara said -"Hurry up and get on the train,it is going to depart."Reyan like an obedient child obeyed his wife's orders and till the time he jumped on the train,it started moving,he gave his hand to Sara to pull her up but he could see Sara's eyes twinkling and she didn't have the slightest desire to board the train.Reyan kept shouting at her-"Sara quick,don't play games with me now." A young man of his teens who was standing behind him said-"Uncle,to whom are you speaking to? Who is Sara? There is no one here.Go to your seat and rest."
Reyan was taken to his seat by some co passengers as they were worried seeing Reyan's behavior and thought he could have jumped out from the moving train.But Reyan kept saying-"Sara is left behind, how will she come back home." He took out his phone to call her and saw Miesha's 10 miss call alerts and a message from her which read-"Reyan,I tried calling you many times,Sara met with an accident while she was driving to Agra to meet you and surprise you, the police had called me up a few minutes back,Sara is in hospital.Come soon."
Reyan could not absorb the facts,he felt his head would just burst up,he called up Miesha who said-"Reyan,where are you? Come home.Your Sara couldn't get through,she breathed her last a minute back."
Reyan glanced out from the window and the deserted station with his Sara waiting back was left far behind him....
